I prefer utopias. Dystopias are becoming too real these days. Just walk outside your door for a dystopia. lol Sadly instead of learning from them I think they just influence people.
I was forced to read several dystopias 2 years ago. It was major depression with how real they have predicted things to get.

@Earthwrap forced? By whom? Why? What did you read? So many questions...

@Starcrossed College English. Oryx and Crake, super sad true love story (every copy should be burned as it threw me into severe depression and I actually sought out the college counselor) and several others.

@Earthwrap Ha ... this required crap novel in my 1998 Comp-Sci class did that to me. Moths to the Flame the Seductions of Computer Technology. It was a terrible book but somehow managed to mess my head up.

@Earthwrap that's completely understandable.
I'm not sure why I'm drawn to dystopian film. I think partially because I dream weird dreams when I do, and usually remember them easier. Not that they're good dreams, or that I like the uneasy feelings I can get watching something dystopian. Like watching a train wreck I suppose, just can't look away.

@Starcrossed They are just a disheartening reminder to me about the state of the world and the direction it's headed in. Also that people can predict such bad things when coming up with these stories and many of them become true. It's like people love suffering, violence, drama and want to see the world go down the toilet.
I need to surround myself with more positive and optimistic stuff. If I want a dystopia I can just turn on the news, read a newspaper, or basically just go out in public.
I kind of liked oryx and crake but I wish I could delete it from my memory because we are really entering a world of massive wealth inequality, more twisted than ever sexuality abuse, and oblivious morons using genetic engineering to cause massive suffering that's already underway.
