i'm not exactly against remakes. some are excellent, the new planet of the apes series is excellant. It is still original as a prequel and i am excited to see where they go. I have loved the additions to star trek and star wars. But then there is the matrix whose additional franchise movies were some of the wort i have ever seen especially given the fact that the original was outstanding. and then we have the recent incarnation of independance day a movie that should have been left on the cutting room floor.
also remember when they tried a sort of remake of are you being served where they were working at a hotel. same actors but it missed the mark badly.
We have a slew of remake on the fall us tv season, i hope they rise up and actually raise the bar on the originals.

i love are you being served. i can't imagine a remake . you are so right the actors make those roles. some of them could be replaced but some are absolutely irreplaceable.
I think "Steptoe and Son" may still work. But in a different setting. "Till Death Do Us Part" was excellent-and a cast like that-and those times-could not be replicated. But some of the Wendy Richard vehicles could be redone.

Hey maybe you could help. ...do you remember a British sitcom from the 80's it was a comedy and it had like 4 guys living together in some dumpy house always getting into trouble. ...they even had motorhead on there once. ..been trying to think of the name for the longest time

Remakes are worth doing if the original never reached it's potential, in other words a good idea that was not done well.

Good show that is, the last of the old school of British sitcoms.

@Goralski was it The Young Ones ?
You hit on what I mean exactly. Till death could not be done now without leaving a lot clueless. In was very 1960's But to me- so was Wendy. Her death saddened so many. Wendy- before she was famous. (And a great song!) Gotta lobe the fashions in this- Fashions I actually remember!

@Elandra Til Death us do Part was so 1960's and a big commentary on the times. I don't know about Steptoe really, I can't imagine it but the Wendy Richard ones, I remember Butterlies. Hard to say.

It is extremely hard to retreat something so good. Rarely can a new actor's personality make the show the same.....
