I am having a hard time rejoicing in this news because of many disappointments in the past ...

but apparently both Hamas and the Israeli government have agreed to the terms of the ceasefire and release of captives pushed by president Trump. May it be true, may everyone carry out their promises in good faith, may this horrible phase of this long struggle be over at last.

I have to think that the US lethal attack on drug runners may have had an influence on the agreement, But like you, what people say what they will do and what they actually do doesn't always match up.

@Heartlander I'm curious why you think this?

Is your thought that Hamas sees what is happening in the Caribbean and, therefore, takes America's threats more seriously??

@Heartlander i think Hamas does care about that at all. I think they are playing their usual game. Agree then stall. They will never give up their arms and or disband. They will pay and wait for their next opportunity the are sworn to destroy Israel. To get a lasting peace requires all of the other Arab countries to agree to do something to integrate Gaza into their world!

We've been promised a ceasefire many times before, so I'm skeptical of this latest effort, even if it has gone further than previous ones.

In the end, Gaza is nearly completely destroyed and its people are displaced. An end to the killing is a start, and an important one, but it is only the least that can be done at this point.
@WestonT Yes, there needs to be so much care provided for the wounded, for the hungry... people who are alive buried in rubble need to be rescued... and there needs to be physical rebuilding of so many destroyed buildings and social and psychological rebuilding of a traumatized society. Whether this proposed "technocratic" government with Trump as some kind of titular head can do this or will even want to, I find hard to trust, but I have to hope.

🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏

Agreement in principle to the major issues... still some details to work out... but we are close.

It will be so great for the war to end. If anyone believes there will be lasting peace in the area, look back thousands of years for the history of the area! Trump is working hard, trying to get the award given to his arch rival.

Netanyau can't allow the war to end. He gets kicked out of power the nanosecond the fighting stops.

Sorry but I'll believe it when I see it.
@Vin53 He is saying his cabinet will meet tomorrow to sign the deal...
I don’t expect either side to behave..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I have to say my view also tends that way, but I cling to a small hope that I'm wrong.
@FreddieUK there’s always the 3rd party option to make one look guilty..
There’s plenty on variables 👍

Netanyahu is convening his Cabinet in a couple of hours to, hopefully, approve.

The latest from the Israeli press is that Hamas is not going to be able to locate some of the remains.
