I am having a hard time rejoicing in this news because of many disappointments in the past ...

but apparently both Hamas and the Israeli government have agreed to the terms of the ceasefire and release of captives pushed by president Trump. May it be true, may everyone carry out their promises in good faith, may this horrible phase of this long struggle be over at last.

We've been promised a ceasefire many times before, so I'm skeptical of this latest effort, even if it has gone further than previous ones.

In the end, Gaza is nearly completely destroyed and its people are displaced. An end to the killing is a start, and an important one, but it is only the least that can be done at this point.
@WestonT Yes, there needs to be so much care provided for the wounded, for the hungry... people who are alive buried in rubble need to be rescued... and there needs to be physical rebuilding of so many destroyed buildings and social and psychological rebuilding of a traumatized society. Whether this proposed "technocratic" government with Trump as some kind of titular head can do this or will even want to, I find hard to trust, but I have to hope.
