So I can't have EMDR because I have chest palpations from anxiety...

But EMDR is what would help with the anxiety and palpations.

I can't treat the cause because of the symptoms...

And nobody thinks that's weird...

Deciding if I should give up on my mental health.

EMDR was my last hope.

Maybe there are some things you can do yourself to reduce the heart palpitations? I'm thinking regular exercise; stretching + walking + 30 minutes of intense exercise daily (if you start slow), and then try a super heart healthy diet like beans, white fish, chicken breast, healthy fats from fatty fish twice a week, vegetables with every meal, 1 to 2 fruits a day, full grain like buckwheat and bulgur, and reduce salt to near 0 (it starts tasting better after a while), and no caffeine. I think those things alone could help a lot because even if they are due to psychological reasons, this lifestyle will still force them to be less than they are now. I have high pressure and very high heart rate + occasion palpitations due to psychological factors too, so I do all the above nowadays myself and it helps. If you have high pressure drink hibiscus tea daily, and any time you feel stressed or anxious, drink chamomile tea with 2 letters per cup, because chamomile relaxes your nervous system.

@EldritchFox No I understand but I was thinking that if you could lessen the palpitations by physical means, then the doctor might allow you to get EMDR. It sounds like they concluded for now it's too dangerous because the EMDR, however unlikely, could give you a small heart attack, and they don't want to be responsible for that risk even it's like 1 in a hundred chance. Palpitations are a heart problem no matter what causes them.

@Nightwings I can't lessen the palpations until I have treatment for anxiety. I rarely even have them anyway. And it has been decided for me that I won't get the actual help I need. So I'm screwed. I appreciate you trying to help but I just got screwed.

@EldritchFox I am sorry that this happened. I think it's stupid too that you can't just get done what you want. If you cannot lessen them, please still try chamomile tea with 2 to 4 letters when you have adrenaline surges due to memory flashes. It forces your nervous system to relax, and your nervous system is what responds dramatically to psychological factors. It will help with the symptoms until you find a doctor or a method that will let you treat the underlying cause.
I'm sorry . Please don't give up

@chernobylplaygr0unds At this point, I only have myself, so thinking I may try to do it on my own.

Might be a disaster but what choice do I have

Do you mean EMDR? Have you asked for a second opinion?
PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
@EldritchFox I don't understand enough but I can see it's disappointing. I think maybe ask why it's not good with anxiety related palpitations and find out what your next steps might be.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@PatientlyWaiting25 my primary's clearance is not required, so I can find someone else willing to do it hopefully. Or maybe I can try to do it alone. It just takes time. There are steps and I would have to start all over again.

It is not just disappointing. We've spent since October last year building up to this and the day/session we are to start she backs out. That really hurt.

Needing my primary's consent should not have come up on the day we were to start the treatment.

I was confident.

Now I'm just crushed and still not getting the help I need or worked for.

@EldritchFox yes it really does seem like you've been let down.

No one should ever give up on their mental health! I'm hoping there's a solution to this conundrum so you can actually find a way to do what's good for youuuu.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@AstroZombie I'm tired of this fight. I really tried and for so long. I don't feel safe with my therapist anymore. She's the only one I ever felt safe with. I don't want to start over. So tired.
AstroZombie · 36-40, M
@EldritchFox I'm sorry. :( If you need someone to talk to, you know what to do!

Are you able to take SSRI meds?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@EldritchFox I understand it's frustrating to have to begin perhaps with a new therapist; I've had to do that several times over the years, once because my therapist passed away. But just like you might not give up on a car that your regular mechanic can't fix, it's worth the effort across the board for you and especially your son.

We all have things that make our brain not work. Mine is OCD. Fiancee has ADHD, and that shit is never a dull fuckin moment with the emotion dysregulation and impulsivity and inattention. Ex-fiancee was a total violent narc. One of my female coworkers was a Borderline, which I think is more prevalent than a lot of people realize. My point is mental health struggles are depressing and awful but what choice do we have?
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@uncalled4 I'm going to try doing EMDR on myself.

There are risks, but I can't just keep missing the mark by relying on others. We're all just people and yes all a little screwy, but I have myself.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@EldritchFox Good. We're all in your corner here.
Neoerectus · M
Hmmm. Please try to get another opinion.

Failing that...
Ever Tried accupunture? Or other other alternative practictioners? (e.g. Homeopathy)? Many are not good, frankly, but I have known couple good ones and a vet.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@Neoerectus I have tried everything I could afford.

I may just move on to a different therapist that doesn't require my doctor's consent because it isn't required. That was just her.
Neoerectus · M
@EldritchFox Hang in there! Our medical system is dysfunctional. It makes us work harder than we should.

BTW, try to find research on the use with folks despite the cautions... might be able to build a case. If you find a popular press article, copy the original journal article title referenced and find it.
