Anyone with past trauma/PTSD

Do you find it hard to figure out what you WANT in Life? I think I got so used to barely scraping by, barely surviving day to day , that I did accept anything. Even a bad toxic environment, low treatment from friend or family. Just accepted it not to rock the boat and try to have even a shred of peace.
Do you find it hard to dream big? Take risks etc? I feel I barely deserved anything in life due to abuse, so any really GOOD thing in life seems unattainable. 😢

I think there are too many conflations in this thread between PTSD and experiencing trauma..

It id absolutely not the same. I am not sure you and few others here have PTSD like I do.

@Miram So for me, my PTSD stops me from going after anything. I was diagnosed a year ago. I believe it's more CPTAD. Years of someone screaming, threatening and physically assault will cause it. And the trauma creates severe self doubt , from narcissist abuse, that I often don't even know what I want.

I'm sorry you have PTSD too.😢 It might present a bit different for each individual. Have you found any tips or methods that alleviate it?

@Coralmist

Individual differences don't really cancel the entire clusters of indicative symptoms. They would be side noise.

The closest to it in this thread is Willa and perhaps Side.

You and others experienced traumas and it's significant.

Have you found any tips or methods that alleviate it?

It has been 22 years journey with CPTSD myself, with professional help. There was a lot to unravel and I have a functional life. Most if not all CPTSD add extra diagnosis. It is not a stand alone mental issue.

@Miram The closest , to PTSD you mean... ?
I didn't list my debilitating symptoms in the thread, but just put trauma and PTSD together because trauma is within PTSD. And it's crippling for me. I have not been able to work for five years now.
And yes I'd say the narc abuse rather than PTSD itself is the root of my inability to not doubt myself or even know what I want. I'm sorry you' have dealt with this affliction so long... 🌸 Did any therapist help? I've been to several but they rarely get into true healing techniques 😕

@Coralmist

You may need a trauma-based therapist. And if you have CPTSD, you need to explore other diagnosis. Because it doesn't exist on its own.. It is complicated by an extra-diagnosis that needs tending to besides other distinctions from PTSD.

Yes, therapists can help.
Medications can help too.
Just don't opt for anything addictive.
Also find people through group therapy. For some, it is easier to make progress when there is community validation.
And regardless of whether or not you have ptsd, staying in contact with your mother will hinder your healing.

@Miram In my case I have it according to the DSM-5, Diagnosed by my therapist. You have to have certain symptoms in each category, like Hypervgilant, negative alterations on mood (fear or shame).. avoidance of triggering environments.
i think I do need a trauma based therapist...I need to look into that too..ty my friend 🌻 it's such a battle, I feel tainted, it makes me feel less than others. But that's the toxicity itself I'm sure, talking. I have not tried meds, I get anxious even about that, ughhhh
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Miram my current therapist recommended a med but I'm wary.... have you tried any?
Miram · 31-35, F
@Coralmist I won't recommend medications online.

I am an emergency medicine specialist and an obstetrician. There are laws and protocols against that for plenty of reasons.

It is something you need to explore with your own doctors. And it will be largely experimental. It will take long time to find what works for you and the correct dosage..can be weeks or months before tangible results. But it will happen for you. You will be alright. As long as you're taking steps to improve, you are doing enough.

@Miram I guess I fear that I will get foggier or have weird symptoms even more than now. I remember reading about a med in a forum that people said nearly ruined their mind and body. It alarmed me so much I thought, I won't take meds. But others have said certain meds Really help so much. I'm scared to experiment
