do you think having ptsd makes you weak, inferior & ridiculous

i deal with ptsd , or try to deal with ptsd because of trauma from my past long ago, i was assailed quite a few times because i used to have trouble controlling anger outbursts in public places, i lived in rough areas at the time and was violently attacked a few times.....in one incident i was hit over the skull with a wooden batton by three youths, i got stitches in my head....

so fast forward to now and i suffer with ptsd episodes a lot....especially when i have to go out in public places...at times i'm a nervous wreck, easily startled and panicked and its a real FIGHT to hold my composure together...i get flash backs too.

all i want to be is strong and confident, but with this ptsd problem it makes me feel like i'm being weak & inferior?

i don't want to be all over the place and a nervous wreck....what do you think?

One of my very good friends in RL says that he suffers from PTSD. I suspect that some of it was put on for my benefit when I first met him. He no longer has all of those dramatic episodes in my presence. He used to pretend to be really startled at times, and told me he could not sit in a restaurant unless he had his back to a wall. Gradually, as his memory gets worse and worse, he has sort of "forgotten" that he is supposed to have PTSD.

However, he was stationed aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam war, and he and several other crew members were sealed into a section of the ship with a fire directly above them. They were unable to get out, and they thought they were going to be cooked to death.

That fear which never quite goes away is not controllable. I know, because I was struck and "attacked" many times, and it has taken a long time to get over it.

In your case, you have several mental health things going on all at once, which makes it extremely difficult for you to overcome your PTSD.

FIGHTING to hold your composure together is good practice. You can not live the rest of your life shut up in your flat. The fact that you are still fighting is very good...very positive.

You are NOT weak or Inferior. You are, in fact, quite brave, because you CAN function when you need to function, even if it is difficult for you.

I had my face surgically put back together a while back after being badly beaten up but thankfully I can't remember a great deal about it. I do get nervous around groups of people now though and don't really like going out unless I have to... Have you tried counselling for it though Darkmere?
