On some days when my ocd is going to be bad, I’ll wake up with some words or a song repeating in my head

I’m not actively thinking them, they just repeat by themselves. Anyway, good morning and severe plaque psoriasis

My son is the same he has ocd and also a compulsion to repeat the words at the end of sentences or certain random phrases. For some reason the phrases often have a country in them. Two of the phrases are Iranian potato and Vietnamese porn, amusing until taking him shopping means getting weird looks from Vietnamese people and the more anxious he gets, the harder it is for him to control. Luckily he can see the funny side, has a good group of friends and doesn't mind when people laugh at the things he says.

@Patientlywaiting oh yeah, like palilaia? Or however you spell it. I have some tics but they usually happen when I’m calm after being stressed, like at the end of the day, instead of when I’m in stressful situations. I’m glad he and his friends find humor in it.

Yes I think that's what it's called

I read an article which said when part of a song gets stuck in your head, the best way to get rid of it, is to sing the entire song.

Not sure if they're correct, but you can try it and see if it works for you.

@itsok awe :( so sorry it's that negative and can't seem to be helped 😞

Can your lovely pets distracted it?

@Viper what happened this morning isn’t horribly unpleasant, it just signifies that I’ll be having trouble with compulsions today. I’m fine!

@itsok That's good, sorry I didn't understand
I had to laugh because of how relatable that is . The worse for me is trying to fall asleep and having graphic images replay in my head or a song . Weirdly the graphic images of violence are easier to handle now bcs I learned to let them play out but still make me largely uncomfortable

@PepsiColaP I thought “severe plaque psoriasis” was a pretty funny one. The images are disturbing. The screaming a phrase one sucks.
@deadgerbil Do your gerbil have it?
Pfuzylogic · M
I would be good unless it was a number from “Grease”!
itsok · 31-35, F
@Pfuzylogic the songs are usually really random ones

@itsok Possibly a top 40 radio station tuning in on a cavity?

I have songs on repeat in my head too, I think that's one real common thing. I don't know if I've ever met someone who don't get random songs in their heads at any time of the day. Is this alone enough criteria for OCD diagnosis or are you self diagnosed?
itsok · 31-35, F
@Queendragonfly oh yeah, this feels different than having a song stuck. This is only upon waking, and I’m not like.. saying the words? Like I’m not thinking the words or going along with them. It can happen at other times as well, but that is usually like an intrusive thought loop where a phrase gets stuck in my head and repeats very loudly, to the point where it’s hard to think.
It’s usually a pretty bad phrase.
You’d have to look into diagnostic criteria for ocd. I was diagnosed in 2009 but have been dealing with it since I was a kid.

@itsok ah ok. That's different yes. My inner songs are not extremely loud or distracting.

How you describe it reminds me of when I heard a really loud "JUMP!" when I was waiting on a train. It came from inside my head and I have no idea what was going on and it only happened that one time. Really weird, freaked me out.

But I have DID so maybe it was am alter but that's scary too if they're they self destructive

@Queendragonfly I’m so sorry. I hope you have a lot of support.
That's literally me every single day.

I wake up with a song in my head every day.
SW-User
That must be irritating, on both counts 😔

Not as irritating as me though 😏
itsok · 31-35, F
@SW-User third annoyance is the charm 😙
