Yep. And it’s the equivalent of telling someone with a broken leg to just walk it off.

@Umile It’s why I make light of it. It’s easier for me to just be agreeable than let people know what’s really going on with my body and brain. At least a broken leg will heal and work again.

@Pinkstarburst I've had people tell me to just pull myself up by my own boot straps. It tells me, they obviously don't get it.

@PhoenixPhail I’m told to just let it go or just be happy. My favorite is, “It’s okay to be sad but you can’t live in it”. Then there are the…
“But I depend on you”
“You have nothing to worry about”
“We all have bad days”

I've been diagnosed with chronic depression, which implies that I will experience bouts for the rest of my life. It's crucial to remember that just because someone isn't writing about their depression on SW doesn't mean they aren't experiencing it; in fact, people who are depressed are more likely to withdraw and avoid talking about it because they feel like a burden. The issue is that everyone wants to turn depression into a contest, saying things like, "Oh, I have it so much worse than you do." It's plainly disgusting, and it's another factor that prevents people from speaking up.

And sad to see someone post a funny emoji on this.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
I get it.
deadteddy · 26-30, F
Did someone laugh at this? Hopefully by accident.
PhoenixPhail · M
@deadteddy If they did, they most likely don't have depression.
deadteddy · 26-30, F
@PhoenixPhail Yeah, the post is not funny at all. 🫤
PhoenixPhail · M
@deadteddy For me, it's quite accurate.
Umile · 41-45, F
Ooh. That is so accurate. My anxiety pie slice would be bigger though.
PhoenixPhail · M
@Umile My anxiety pie slice is a little bigger, too.

And the whipped cream on top of that pie is the physical exhaustion

if you spend your life in
hopelessness
self loathing
isolation

sadness
guilt
your parents friends and peers failed you... just saying..

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I disagree with this.
