Does depression medication actually work?

I have purposely avoided asking my doc for medication but I seriously do not know how to cope.

despite my efforts, my life is not going right.

I've looked at every area of my life:
Spiritual- don't see God anywhere
Mind/Emotions- full of anxiety and hopelessness
Family-no togetherness
Body- hurts everyday, constant tiredness, poor sleep
Knowledge- lots of stuff i don't know/understand
Money/finances: think everyone could use more
Career: never been even a little happy on jobs
Social Life- nonexistent

And I know I've put in great effort to help myself with all the above.

At the end of the rope. Maybe medicine will help before I fall off

🟣In case anyone is wondering "what has this person tried"? Read below ⬇️

Spiritual: I've spoken to my previous pastor (no longer here (covid)). Also joined a new church, joined church group and share my thoughts, study the word, pray

Mind/emotions: go outdoors when weather would safely allow, write/journal, see 2 therapists for about 6 months, pray, listen to inspirational messages.

Family: suggest cheap family outings such as events, going to each breakfast or lunch. Reaching out to extended family to have outings (family reunion coming soon. I was a teen at the last one).

Body- chiropractor 2 years, physical therapy on 2 separate occasions, stretch. Soon will try water aerobics

Knowledge: i read, watch documentary

Money: save what i can. I don't have unnecessary subscription
Career: switch jobs if I'm not happy
Social life: joined church groups, reached out to old friends and cousins, tried to get my siblings together, joined meetup, created own meetup group twice, bumble bff

ALL TO VERY LITTLE AVAIL

Honestly starting to see why people just choose $ui€ide. Life shouldn't be this hard!

You should talk with your doctor. You may have something else causing your symptoms.

@SweetMae doctors haven't been helpful in the past, for any other issues I've had. I've been constantly brushed off.

@iamnikki I am sorry to hear that.

Medication does work. I'm on an antipsychotic and it's done me wonders. You just have to find the one that works for you.
You are always trying your best, trying different things to better yourself. I know I'm an internet stranger but from what I've seen from you I really believe you will be successful. As for medication I'm not sure, I've been considering taking it for the first time, myself. Others have said it takes a few tries to find the right one, but it's been life changing for them.

I’m on antipsychotics and antidepressants, i know it seems scary at first but it gets a lot easier. See if they work for you, for me they worked really well, I wish you health and happiness you deserve to feel better

It sounds like giving meds a try wouldn't be a bad thing...you may just need something to help balance you out abit
I know of several cases where meds have definitely helped with depression - both chronic and acute forms of depression.

I'm not a doctor, but I've been close to several people who have been helped. If you're thinking, even vaguely, about suicide, then it's worth giving meds a try. What do you have to lose? You are NOT ALONE in having these feelings. Many other people have been in similar unhappy states with similar hopelessness and pain of living. You should try what they tried before you give up.

Yes meds do work. But which ones? That's gonna be a trial and error.

I've been taking antidepressants since 2009. It's certainly helped me, but everyone is different. It really depends on the source of the depression.
In my own experience, they made me numb and rather apathetic to things that should have disturbed me.
Didn't work for me.
i dont see god however i am trying to find peace of mind. i like ted talks
