my daughter is on the spectrum

she was diagnosed at level 1 around kindergarten. she's a super bright girl, though raising her has been quite the experience. i can't say i'm perfect, but i try to be as accepting of who she is as a person, and accommodate for things she needs that others might not.

my daughter has autism

All humans are on the spectrum somewhere. There is no clear line between normal and abnormal human behaviours. My 20 yo has high functioning autism and apparently I do too but I've never been assessed or tested for it to know definitely.

@zonavar68 Oh yeah everyone needs medicated and injected and, and...

It is just doctors trying to sell people a load of sh*t
zonavar68 · 56-60, M
@CestManan I will never take medication for autism/ Asperger's ASD whatever you call it. Anti depressants are so dangerous.

Keep up the good work raising her!

I imagine that there would be a lot of challenges that you would have to overcome but imagine it to be very rewarding for you and your little girl

That sounds like good advice for treating people in general. Nobody's perfect, but I am sure you are doing a terrific job 🙂

Keep at it.
You're doing better than you think.
Nobody else is as intuitive to your Daughter's needs.

Isn't it strange how these so-called autistic and ADD kids have a hard time in class and with discipline but come time to play video games or stare at endless tiktok videos, suddenly they can focus?

@Fertilization I think it means that the label high-functioning autism is becoming somewhat questionable, especially if they talk about masking or being diagnosed only later in life because nobody noticed anything out of ordinary about them. I'd say if you spend a week with a person and they don't show any exceptionally abnormal behaviour then what is the label even good for? If someone is capable of masking, then it means they are capable of understanding how society works and control their natural behaviour. If autism means a lack of understanding of social cues then how is one even capable of masking in the first place?
I remember some stories from my friends talking about their schoolmate who was incapable of understanding sarcasm or took everything too literally, not really grasping the concept of metaphors. I'd understand that as an example of high-functioning autism, not some people with some atypical opinions about relationships or other BS some try to present as signs of autism on social media.

@CestManan ADD and ADHD is over-diagnosed, but autism is generally quite easy to detect.
CestManan · 46-50, F
@MartinTheFirst REAL autism yes, not the kind where they just want to run kids through the psyche system.

My son is autistic
The good news is, you aren't alone these days. It was a bit of a relief when mine was, because suddenly there was a (well-beaten) path ahead
