Late diagnosed ADHD

Any one here been diagnosed late in life with ADHD? As a 45 year old, was recently diagnosed and now a lot of my past experiences, and difficulties, seem to have more clarity.

I’m just curious if anyone else has gone through the same.

I was diagnosed with OCD at 45. Changed my life as it was impacting the quality of it. A simple med made me so much happier. It was misdiagnosed as depression for years.

I've been trying but they wouldn’t assess me due to smoking marijuana. I was told I would need to quit before they'd do it.

@Starcrossed it doesn’t nullify. But it would invalidate how they diagnose or test. At least that’s what I’d think.

@martyjay well just because someone smokes pot doesn't mean they don't have ADD. To me it seems like its discrimination to completely dismiss testing someone just because they pissed hot from something consumed 2-3 weeks prior.

@Starcrossed I wouldn’t know. Best of luck to you.

i was checked for ADHD but i don't have it. I do have anxiety and that took me years to figure out. I will just keep it rather than medicate it but it explains a lot of things
Same. Diagnosed at 48. Tough pill to swallow, but it explained a lot of shit I went through and put others through.
I have never been diagnosed, I do believe I tick the boxes.

@Slothy what struck me was the H… because I’ve never considered myself to be hyperactive. But when I learned that my mind was internally hyperactive, and not everyone seems to be that way, it clicked. Go figure.
@martyjay

I was hyperactive as a child, my brain as an adult is hyperactive.

I've never been diagnosed but definitely suspect it to be the case. 🤔

Nope but it's common. You can take meds for this as an adult too.

What prompted you to seek help?
martyjay · 46-50, M
@CrazyMusicLover just seemed to be a culmination of things. But it was actually through grief counselor after a parent died. And they asked if I’ve ever been diagnosed after a few sessions.

@PoetryNEmotion thank you.

It’s cool how you’re all supportive and such. Must be the iambic pentameter in your words.

Love ya!
@martyjay You do not know what love is then! Adios, turkey.
