I have a problem even with a single definition of love.

Would you love your neighbor unconditionally in all ways? That includes Eros. 😱

The moment you exclude an aspect from anything, then you have a problem. It's no longer everything.

This was the problem the Catholic Church faced with Latin. Amor included Eros, so they corrupted the Greek definition of agape and made agape not so inclusive, which in Greek, agape did include Eros as well. Zeus loved (agape) his own daughter Athena in the full greek sense. Including Eros.

Is it any wonder why the christian churches discourage kids learning greek mythology? 🤣

Yes. That's what I have for my kids and my parents.

Well for me I believe in Unconditional Love because I felt it when my maternal grandmother was living..She really loved us Grandkids, her and my Grand-dad did lot stuff for us when we were down and out losing our house they saved it. And they both showed us Unconditional Love.

It's never been a thing for me, however there are a few with whom I've been through lots of conditions and still love sooo.... 🤷🏻‍♀
Yep, all parents know it is real.
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Yes but a rarity
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
From your parents is always a thing.
Ofcourse it is and always will be.

Romantic settings --> No.
Other settings (animals, own children...) --> Yes.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
Yes. In certain degrees anyway.
Ontheroad · M
I don't think it ever was a thing... love, like most things, has conditions. I get what the it means and depending on how you personally define the love you want and can give, it has fewer (or more) conditions, but in my experience, there is always a condition... or three, or four.
Between parents or grandparents and children, perhaps. Most adult relationships have well-defined conditions.
Magenta · F
No such thing exists. Easy to say when everything is going ideally or you're madly in love. Try it out and see.

ETA: I mean, if there are no conditions that means you will love them no matter the most despicable thing they could do. What if they were a pedophile or worse.

For a few, yes.
XxBlahxX · F
Only for my kids
BillyMack · 46-50, M
@XxBlahxX I agree here. I just know some parents and how they have treated or do treat their kids and it’s tough.
GoFish ·
it always has and always will be a thing

not everyone has it tho

unconditional love is not the same thing as romantic love lust ..
BillyMack · 46-50, M
Only from animals.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
It could be.
cuppatea · 31-35, F
Erm, no. The closest thing is between parents and their children but there are MANY parents who abuse their children, so that's not always a guarantee.
DanielsASJ · 36-40, M
Unconditional Love, yes, it is, but has to be towards God. Amongst us, conditional love suits better.
RebelRaven · 51-55, F
Degbeme · 70-79, M
I might have at one time. Not anymore.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
It can be, but it's difficult. And boundaries are very important.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
Maybe for some.
Imsolost · 51-55, M
I think it could be but the problem people will start taking advantage of it causing the other person to slowly build resentment really sad if you think about it
Alyosha · 36-40, M
God loves that way. Homo sapiens only does so under pressure, which is to say they don't.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Alyosha I've read all about God's "unconditional" love.
Wiseacre · F
I never believed in it…there are always hidden conditions.
