Anyone who is lazy enough to rely on broad sweeping stereotypes is going to be proven wrong.

@SilentObZerver You have to ask? Maybe meet more people and see for yourself.
ElwoodBlues · M
@SilentObZerver I don't suppose you would be willing to share with us which philosopher said this and in which century? The nature of marriage has changed - especially in the last several decades.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Disagree, I know plenty of women who were not opportunistic in the man they married or loved.
Gotta love stereotypes. 🙄
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
I don't believe that "love," or any emotion, really, can be ascribed a rational motivation.
We love who we love, and there's generally no choice in the matter. The only choice we have is in what we do about those feelings. And in that case, every individual is going to take actions that they hope will get them what they want out of life.
Maybe a woman wants to get married and have a big family with lots of kids. Maybe she loves this one guy, but she recognizes that he's feckless and won't be a good provider. Maybe she'll choose not to pursue a relationship with him because she doesn't believe he'll provide her the life she wants.
Maybe a guy wants the same thing. And maybe he's in love with a woman who is career focused, professional, not domestically centered. Is he going to pursue a relationship with this woman, or find a woman he's reasonably compatible with who would be a better partner in getting what he wants?
The point is that people all want different things, and as far as emotions go, we don't always follow rational motivations. Sometimes we follow our hearts, even if they lead us in a direction we weren't planning on.
So, to answer your question — yes and no.

NinaCherry · 26-30, F
@Ontheroad 🤣
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
What philosopher said this?
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@OlderSometimesWiser A wise sage!
ABCDEF7 · M
There are all sorts of men and all sorts of women.
SilentObZerver · 22-25, M
@ABCDEF7 hmm!
ElwoodBlues · M
I disagree strongly. Why? My life experience.
Miram · 31-35, F
Is the name of the philosopher Deez Nutz?
AbbeyRhode · F
Sounds like that philosopher had a bad experience. And he wasn't much of a philosopher to label all women because of it.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
No, I don't agree with that at all.
Sounds like somebody who couldn't get any...

A philosopher who didn’t particularly like women ? I can certainly believe that. 🙄
I married a man who didn’t even own a car when we met. I was idealistic. But I was never happier.

The great philosophical mind of Andrew Tate
bijouxbroussard · F
@UndercoverBard That’s who I thought of, too.
Fertilization · 36-40, F
This Philosopher needs a reality check.
Bleak · 36-40, F
I love unconditionally.
WillaKissing · 56-60
I am not afraid to say I agree!
WillaKissing · 56-60
@OlderSometimesWiser I am truly sorry and wished the evidence was different for me in my life, but every girlfriend including the one and only wife I had (Happily divorced from now) has all been about what I make and what do I have and can offer.
And all I want/wanted idealistically was only to be loved/love.
I have to roll with past and present-day experiences.

@WillaKissing I get it, truly I do. We all see life through the lens of our personal experience. I just always try to leave the door open a crack, just in case. 🙂
WillaKissing · 56-60
@OlderSometimesWiser Oh, it is cracked but ready to be locked tight when needed/warranted.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
And intersex or transgender folks love....?
Vengabus · 36-40
Was that philosopher a man?
ImperialAerosolKidFromEP · 51-55, M
I have no idea. I'd probably need to listen to his rationale
