Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with

water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. (Ephesians 5:25-28).

So basically the bible is telling me to take a shower with my wife..?? I can handle that! Now where are we on shrimp?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
And the two verses before that say : “Wives, submit to your own husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.” Ephesians 5: 22-24
@hippyjoe1955 Yeah, but I think we men focus too much on the responsibilities of the wife when we should focus more on our responsibilities.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@RocktheHouse I think both of the injunctions run contrary to our fleshly desire. We men don't want to ask our wives to submit to us. We don't want to put up with the static. However if we love our wives we do ask them to submit since that is love.

That doesn’t always work in a family where both husband and wife work full time and share responsibilities. In 2022 that happens a lot :)
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@justanothername Which again has what to do with the order in the home?
justanothername · 51-55, M
@hippyjoe1955 If you both work similar hours in similar jobs - say he’s a teacher she’s a cop, how do you divide jobs and responsibilities at home?

Or you both teach or a both nurses.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@justanothername Hmmmm I don't see where Paul wrote it was the woman's job to wash the dishes and the man's job to chop the wood do you? Not sure why you keep avoiding the obvious. Wives submit to your husbands. Husbands love your wives.

People should love their partner? Real insightful there, Yahweh. Thanks. What would we do without your glorious wisdom. 🙄
Imsleepy · 31-35
@RocktheHouse Allah and Yahweh are the same god and it is imaginary.
@Imsleepy 😂 Based on the semantics, I agree, in Arabic, Allah means God. However, the Muslim God Allah and Yahweh cannot be the same God, as I've never heard a Muslim refer to him as Yahweh. Just because Muhammad developed an imaginary god based on Christianity doesn't mean it's the same God.
Imsleepy · 31-35
No, the Abrahamic faiths literally believe in the same imaginary god. @RocktheHouse

Interesting approach. I'll have to think about it.
@helenS @helenS There has to be some solution to save marriages. Too many are falling apart.
helenS · 36-40, F
@RocktheHouse Mine fell apart, too. It was my fault. I should never have married. I'm not designed for marriage.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout 😂There are some women out there who refuse to bathe but once a week.
justanothername · 51-55, M
@hippyjoe1955 I didn’t mention anything about women “having” to wash the dishes.
Women can also chop wood. I’m pretty sure most guys know how to load a dishwasher and push the “On” button?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@justanothername So do I. The question in front of us is how modern work practices somehow negate the teaching in Ephesians about Wives and Husbands. Any explanation?
redredred · M
About that church without stain of blemish, yeah, not on this planet.

@CopperCicada These days, it seems social media is prioritized over quality time with spouses. I don't know the statistics, but I am willing to bet the average America woman spends more time on social media than talking to her husband.
