Jeep Wrangler versus Ford Bronco

Which wins?
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
My vote is for the Wrangler but 10 years and older.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Jeephikelove I have that now - from the early 2000s.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@LadyBronte sweet!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Jeephikelove I do love it, and it's a fun little ride that I'll be keeping, but it's not practical as an everyday vehicle.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
If you’re not going topless, I’d get a 1958 Edition Land Cruiser. Also, the 4Runner, by January, will be a redesign. Both will off road well. Both are much better daily drivers. Both are very very high in retained value, but you can’t go topless. That’s the single drawback.

So, if you need the ability to go without a top or doors for that matter, I’d still go with a Jeep over the Ford. Ford quality is just a joke in general. It’s just not part of their dna.

Saying a top can leak means it does. Untreated leaks cause mold. Mold removal can easily be a $5,000 tear down. And, are they going to warranty that claim after your factory warranty expires? Or, are they going to deflect and blame you?

Finally, looks so matter. That’s why so many choose the Rubicon. Personally, as a daily driver, that’s a mistake. Lifted, big tires, it just isn’t a good ride. It’s rough. Even the basic Rubicon untouched isn’t something you’ll want to take a 3 hour road trip in.

I have a 2020 Sahara. Off roading has been on the beach, not rocky trails. It does just fine. I got the V6 vs the 4 cyl turbo and both tops - hard and soft. Do not get the sky active roof. It’s a waste.

Fun fun vehicle. Very strong resale. Almost crazy. If we take it to NYC, 3.5-4.5 hours, it becomes uncomfortable.

@LadyBronte It could’ve been me with “topless”, the common Jeep vernacular. 😂
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Adogslife Yeah, I thought of that too. Lol.
icedsky · 51-55, M
Give me an old Bronco or Wrangler and it's an even contest. The new stuff will just leave you stranded 20 miles in.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@icedsky Hard to understand how the new models have so many issues after being successful for so many years previously. My current jeep is nearly 20 years old and still running.
icedsky · 51-55, M
@LadyBronte Keep your current Jeep. Less complicated and costs lots less to repair. You cant buy anything new without at least a dozen recalls and "Service Bulletins " I swear the last 4 vehicles I've seen broken down out in the wilderness were all 2018 or newer.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@icedsky Oh, definitely keeping the jeep. Tired of my car, ready to trade it for something else.
What are you looking for? Personal choice would be a 392 Rubicon wrangler, the bronco raptor is tempting and a little more spacious, probably rides better having ifs instead of a solid axle.

Currently I have a Jeep jku rubicon
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Justafantasy I know some of the tow packages are better than others but haven't researched them much. It's a small Scotty - canned ham - type camper. Relatively light weight due to size and the fact that I only camp with the basics. It is not a "glamper". But even at that, I don't want to stress engine, tires, etc.
@LadyBronte Rubicon and Mojave Jeep's have bigger axles, heavier drivetrain due to what they're built for. Rubicon has better gears for pulling, Mojave has faster gears for daily driving
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Justafantasy Thanks for the information. I'll study those out before it's all said and done.
bowman81 · M
For me its the Bronco. The full size one. It is much more capable than the Wrangler. They really are not in the same class at all. If you intend to creep along small narrow trails the Wrangler has the edge, but for overall utility use with the capability to go off road and get through rough country.....I will take the Bronco every time.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@bowman81 I agree. I'm currently leaning toward the Bronco. Wider wheel base, smoother ride on the highway, yet still offers off road capabilities.
bowman81 · M
@LadyBronte If you haven't already, be sure to test drive both. The new Wrangler will have changes since yours was built and may surprise you. You want to be sure you are comfortable with the visibility, handling, and such of either vehicle. Neither of these are like the "Old Trucks". At today's prices you can't afford to make a mistake....and buy something you can't live with.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@bowman81 Definitely. I have tested the Wrangler, but finding a bronco with the right set up is taking a while. Thanks.
Bronco. Die hard fan of the classic models from 70s/80s.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SethGreene531 Yes, I have. In fact, I'm considering purchasing one right now. They don't have the nostalgic feel, but it should be a fun ride!
@LadyBronte That's nice, I hope you enjoy reliving a piece of automobile history.
Despite the modified look, and the nostalgia factor; the heart and soul of Bronco still beats under the hood. I have no doubt you'll enjoy it immensely!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SethGreene531 Thanks. If that is what I ultimately end up with, I do hope it's enjoyable. 😊

LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@JasonH A beaut! Love the color!
I was going to buy the wrangler..
I kinda wish I did because the Suzuki I bought has bugger all towing capacity
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout I had one of those little Suzuskis way back in the early 90s. It was older but it was a dog. Couldn't wait to get rid of it!
Wireman · 31-35, M
They will both get you there, but getting home again is the problem. I prefer the old army Willys Jeep.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Wireman I'll agree, they were tanks.
Coldplay · 61-69, M
I’ll take the Wrangler!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Coldplay Looks are important to me so.... 👏🏻
Coldplay · 61-69, M
@LadyBronte well there you go. Wrangler it is!! See? That was easy.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Coldplay I wish it were that easy!
Secretsmile · 51-55, F
I like the old jeeps.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Secretsmile I do as well, and I have one, but it's not practical as an my everyday vehicle.
Secretsmile · 51-55, F
@LadyBronte I know. My brother only uses his for shows.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Secretsmile I dont take mine to shows. Its just for being out and about.
Nice to see you LadyB hope all is well your way 🌹
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@metaldog Thanks. I'm getting by.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@YourMomsSecretCrush Any particular reason you chose Jeep?
@LadyBronte just not a fan of Fords in general. Although Ford trucks definitively seem better than their cars.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@YourMomsSecretCrush I have to agree there. You couldn't give me a Ford car.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
Bronco won. 😉
swirlie · 31-35, F
@LadyBronte
Yeah!!!! 🥳🤩
jackson55 · M
With Chrysler corps current owner’s financial issues,Jeep may not be around. At least Ford may still be here?
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@jackson55 Jeep is really having some problems major with their products too. That is not helping them. I've been a jeep girl for years - not so much anymore.
jackson55 · M
@LadyBronte Your right. Labor issues and substandard parts. Chrysler, Dodge, Ram and Jeep all have the same issues.
It’s all of Steliantis brands.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@jackson55 Out of all those, Jeep has had more major vehicle problems that the rest put together. Their engineers have really fallen on their faces.
Jeep Wrangler. I was a passenger in a Ford Bronco which had a nasty accident. I don't feel Ford Broncos are safe cars.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SalamanderWolfWoman Jeep's safety ratings are terrible. Bronco beats them by a mile!
thisguy20 · 41-45, M
Neither.
The real fight is between AM General Hummer, Mercedes G-wagon, and Lamborghini LM002
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@thisguy20 Might be fun, but neither of those are my cup of tea. Too big, too $. Thanks.
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
Go with a Ford every time Jeep is now made in China
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@KingofBones1 Could be why they are experiencing so many issues now, as compared to older models.
KingofBones1 · 46-50, M
@LadyBronte yes the old Jeeps were awesome my parents had one when I was a kid an old CJ7 and that thing lasted for a very long time over some very hard miles now they are over cosmetic pieces of junk
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@KingofBones1 Agreed.
Offthetop · 51-55, M
They are both just appealing to nostalgia and both lack any innovation.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Offthetop But great for off roading. And neither has ever been a luxury vehicle. 🤷🏼‍♀
WandererTony · 56-60, M
Mahindra Thar
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@WandererTony No. It's not.
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@LadyBronte Tough choice then.
Wrangler has ruled long enough. Go for Bronco.
Frankly its a tie 😊
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@WandererTony Thanks. Still undecided.
Sapio · 51-55, M
The Ford Bronco.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Sapio Any reason you go with Ford over Jeep?
Sapio · 51-55, M
@LadyBronte I was thinking of the OJ Bronco when I answered this. That was a tough truck.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Sapio Gotcha.
[media=https://youtu.be/-SpA63Codog]
@LadyBronte I think it was a spin-off from "Cheyenne". It didn't last long.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SmileOnYourBrother I do remember Cheyenne - through reruns.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SmileOnYourBrother It appears somewhere along the way you've changed your name. Great song though.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@LadyBronte
Ahhhhhh............
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@ElRengo That's too nice to take off road and not practical as my everyday vehicle. Still cute though.
ElRengo · 70-79, M
@LadyBronte
Yes.
It holds young times memories of mine.
But true, neither a car for my present days.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
Wraaaangler
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Notsimilarreally Why did your choose wrangler?
Zonuss · 46-50, M
Wrangler. Much more thorough vehicle 🚑
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Zonuss Have you researched all the problems Jeep has had in the last few years. Reliability in certain areas is questionable at best. The latest have been corrosion problems and transmission issues. I don't think I can agree it is a more thorough vehicle these days.
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Donotfolowme Ford Ranger or Jeep Wrangler?
swirlie · 31-35, F
Jeep has an extremely poor safety record as well as poor reliability statistics and their overall poor quality cannot justify their high price. Additionally, Jeep's annual depreciation rate is higher than any other vehicle on the market today. Insurance underwriters call Jeeps 'risky' because if the vehicle is in a collision, there is a very high chance that it won't be worth fixing if the air bags deploy, which means Jeeps are written-off by insurance companies more often than any other vehicle in comparison. This translates into higher insurance premiums to own a new Jeep.
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@swirlie Jeep, the brand, has higher depreciation. Jeep, the Wrangler, has one of the lowest 3-5 year depreciation rates in the industry. It’s actually a market anomaly in and of itself, much like a Toyota Tacoma. The Bronco also does very well.

Eventually the decision will become one of comfort and aesthetics.
swirlie · 31-35, F
@Adogslife
I hate to tell you this, but the Jeep Wrangler isn't in the same league as the Toyota Highlander when it comes to resale value, in fact the Wrangler isn't even close.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Adogslife I have an older Wrangler that's a lot fun to drive. It does seem to be holding value well. (I've never had occasion to check on other models.) I've had quite a bit of interest should I decide to sell.

The Toyota Tacoma resale values are surprising. That was another vehicle that was on my radar in the beginning, so I researched quite a bit on it.

Ultimately, the Bronco won. Picking it up today. It's a nice ride.

Now I have one of each. Best of both worlds!

Thanks for your input!
SandWitch · 26-30, F
I did a safety analysis on the Jeep and all Jeep variations and it will surprise you to learn that the National Safety council doesn't actually recommend anyone buy any Jeep product because they fail every crash test in a test facility using dummies and cameras.

Shocking actually, considering the cost of them is right up there with other vehicles like Ford which do much better in the crash tests.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SandWitch I've watched a lot of crash test videos and looked at the ratings. Jeep has always sucked on safety. The Bronco beats Jeep hands down.

@SubstantialKick I just don't know what happened to them. Jeep put out a great product for so long and then kaputz.

@NativePortlander1970 I know. Ugh. Jeep has issues with door corrosion & the manual tranmission system. A jeep will nickle and dime you to death anyway. I know. I have one. Fun to drive though - and great for off road. Bronco has a manual trans rattle, and hardtop leak issues which appear to be hit and miss. But which do you choose for off roading?
@LadyBronte Neither
