Usually they become surreal, involving parts of my like but taken to an absurd level. I have lived many lives in dream, but none of those dreams I have lived unless I understand the metaphor I created for myself to understand.
Like why dream of communal living, with every wall covered with books never touched, while not knowing the room I am to sleep in, and I was wanting to know to keep my cats safe. Why throw in a barbed wire fence just beyond the deck where the host lets her cat play. And beyond that fence is a graveyard only for those who have lived there? Why another fence after, only lining the sides of the property and not keeping anyone in or out? While the host smirked about her cats? And there was a train track beyond the property.
I thought to myself, oh yeah, hope your cats are sneaky get through the barbed wire while you brag about giving them freedom and the only other place they have to go is a railway track. So smart.
Then I wake to my friend I had not seen in years, saying there is this book in their garage sale, and I'm kneeling looking it at as if it's real and he says, don't worry if you want something from the garage sale they don't charge who live here.
Huh? I get it... I feel vulnerable in connection and just went through unemployment which questioned where I would live.

Front door breaking down in the late evening/at night and me having to guard the apartment, not being able to get it fixed. Sometimes random people walk in as if it wasn't my private space.
Having to use a toilet at a place where anybody can come anytime and see me.
War dreams, air strikes, a chunk of apartment missing. An airplane hitting the nearby building...hiding from drones, searching for a room without the windows to not be detected.
Missing some appointment. Usually something with school. Missing a bus and knowing that if I took the next one I would come too late. So it feels like there's still time but in fact isn't. I just can watch the clock as the hand approaches the time when I was supposed to be somewhere.
Running away from a storm and trying to find a place to hide or make an excuse to stay somewhere longer because I see black clouds forming and I am afraid I would get caught in it. Lightning strikes around when I'm indoors but I don't feel safe and I try to find a room without the windows or be as far away from them as possible.
I used to have recurring dreams about running away from sudden big waves on a beach or from a building where I knew was a bomb but I haven't had one of those in years.

My most common ones are about school. A project is due and I forgot to do it, or just avoided doing it. So I end up trying to run away before that class starts. (I'm not in school anymore.)
Another really common stress dream I get is I have way too many pets. And I somehow forgot about having them so they are all super neglected and sick and then I have to figure out how to take care of all these sick wounded animals.

It's bad. Very scary, gorey and gruesome. Sad. Just awful things that affect me for a long time.

My stress dreams usually involve trying to find something in a mess of sorts of I'm at some workplace struggling with a ton of angry customers shouting at me.

@PlayingGames last week, I dreamt I re-enlisted into the Army. Figuring out whether it was real or not was surreal
