OJT Anxiety

Starting our OJT next semester and feeling quite nervous about it. I'm filled with anxiety because, firstly, my resume doesn't look impressive. I'm studying BSIT, and apart from our capstone project, I don't have much to showcase. Unfortunately, even the capstone project isn't that strong. Additionally, I struggle with talking to people, and I'm afraid I'll fail in interviews. Now, I'm anxious that no company will accept me.

Go in with a determination to learn and to do your best, be on time, and if you have a question ask. The only question that is a dumb question is the one you don't ask. Employers want an employee who is willing to learn and will do what is asked without arguing or being disgruntled about it as if it is below you to do the work. If they don't appreciate you, then move on find someone who does. Some are only there to take advantage if that is the case move on. An employer should act responsibly and with respect to their employees same with the employees towards the employer. The last two jobs I had didn't and I walked as soon as I was able and had something to fall back on. An employer who has a high turner has it for a reason so be wary of them. They either don't pay enough or don't treat their employees well. Companies like that are not worth your anxiety.

It's been a very long time since I've felt nervous about a job interview but I get it. Entry level applicants by definition don't have impressive skill sets or qualifications to list. Consider the other skills that might be attractive. Simple things like being on time, an eagerness to learn, attention to detail, and being organized. Project a basic confidence in your self without suggesting arrogance.

This is a video I have shared about a hundred times which may be helpful. I usually re-watch it every time I share it too!

No one is born with an impressive and interesting resume. They have to be built, carefully, over time.
