Do you respect people who don't work for a living, or are not stay-at-home parents?

(Not including those who are incapable of working…didn’t mean to insult anyone)
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F Best Comment
If I didn't it would mean I don't respect myself and I'm in therapy to up my self respect not reduce it.

AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
It's not my place to judge. Tbh I get sick of people acting like we're meant to slave our lives away for materials and status.

I took a break after my parents passed away. I was a full time mom with no one. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell to work enough when there's zero childcare available. If I did have childcare I'd have to work two jobs to afford someone else watch my child...

So no, I don't judge.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@AlchemyFox I exempt stay at home parents.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
@Bumbles You did. Society does not.
There's a lot of working people I don't respect
elafina · 36-40, F
@metaldog this...
elafina · 36-40, F
I try to not judge. You don't know from what thing is one resting from..
As long as they don't expect to live off of me, I'm good and even interested in their story.
Also I am aware one can contribute in various ways. For example there are some meditators I met, they do nothing mostly but meditate. I believe they are of great value.
And other kinds of people. Street musicians for example.
Certain types of healers who might not work with the typical idea of work, but it happened to live near them and see how they're "working".
Some offer secretly, without making it a big deal, some who don't look like it even. So I try to be careful and not judge..
Some are just deeply unloved, hurt and cynical and can't find a way out. And this sucks away all of their energy. It's difficult to respect those indeed.... they need it but it's hard.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@elafina You’re a kind soul!
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F
It depends on why they aren't working. Some cannot.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@foldedunfolding I was looking out for you, didn`t want you to lose your edge. 🥰
foldedunfolding · 41-45, F

My ‘personal opinion’? People should contribute to the society they benefit from not just their bubble, , whether that’s just taxes to pay for the programs, going into a career field that betters the society, or volunteering.
I can’t say respect or dIsrespect comes to mind though.
fun4us2b · M
No - I'm aware of a bum like that who used his inheritance and made believe he was a business person...he never actually works, I have NO respect for him...
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@fun4us2b Exactly! I can’t stand when people pretend to have careers when they are just trust fund babies.
fun4us2b · M
@Bumbles Agreed and even worse when they are taking advantage of others who are actually working, so they can basically steal money...
HannahSky · F
Everyone's situation is different.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@HannahSky Thanks for the response. I’ve found SW skews a certain way on this subject.
HannahSky · F
@Bumbles if you're talking about recent out of work people, it tends to be people who took early retirement during the pandemic. They might be not working or now working part time jobs in retirement. The idea of the value of a work, seems to have changed, I've noticed. I don't necessarily think it's a bunch of lazy people out there, it's a combination of factors.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@HannahSky Fair enough!
Puppycat23 · F
I do respect people who don't work for a living, they got it made and don't have to get up and make a quick buck. I also respect parents who aren't stay at home parents as my parents were in this position.
Puppycat23 · F
@Bumbles If one had time off from work, he/she would stay home, and fix me breakfast or lunch. Plus I went to school so I would eat breakfast and lunch there. If I got out of school for the day and my parents weren’t going to be home until later, I’d go home and fix a snack myself.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Puppycat23 So, they worked, then?
Puppycat23 · F
@Bumbles yep
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
Work or don't work. As long as you're not freeloading off of someone who's unhappily slaving for the both of you, you're fine by me.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@DearAmbellina2113 I suppose I was limiting my comment to those who seem capable of work. I could have been more specific.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
@Bumbles I mean I hate laziness, but just because someone isn't employed doesn't mean they're lazy. If they're growing their own food, living in a house they inherited, and wearing donated hand-me-downs, etc. they are still human beings with worth.

Employment = worthiness is a dangerous way to think.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@DearAmbellina2113 I think the house inheritor/food growing sustenance folks are not a very high number. But yes, I will exempt sustenance farmers (mad respect in fact) and the mentally ill from my list.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
I don’t judge. As long as your children are well taken care of and their needs are met and they are loved that’s what matters
I respect myself.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Bumbles Coz that's essential.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Lyfis2live It’s overrated
Sevendays · M
I did my time. I'm reaping the rewards now.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Sevendays Retirees who worked their lives are not in this group.
SW-User
Never think about it at all.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@SW-User You should.
SW-User
@Bumbles Why?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
It's not a determining factor for me. How they treat others is.
BeepBeep · F
I would think it would have to be on a case to case basis
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I worked very hard but unfortunately I have a few illnesses and I am not able to work anymore.

I was approved for long term disability through my work which I paid in too.

I enjoyed my work but my health is more important 🤷🏼‍♀️.

Bumbles · 51-55, M
@Lilnonames I do let them, I just don't find I respect them.
