So rich people deserve to die?

I don't get it.
Bearsfan67 · 56-60, M Best Comment
People engage in all sorts of dangerous activities. Those folks didn’t deserve to die because of their wealth anymore than firefighters, oil rig workers, miners, mountain climbers, sky divers or anyone else. Tragedy is tragedy and regardless of their incomes they had friends and families who no doubt are grieving.

WandererTony · 56-60, M
It was sad. An accident. Let us stop rich bashing on the dead.
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
@WandererTony Ya no shit..its pretty disgusting
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
I don't get it either. I like what Adam Grant had to say about it.

Magenta · F
@ChampagneOnIce Beautiful quote! I agree.
antonioioio · 70-79, M
@ChampagneOnIce a beautiful quote 🌹
Gloomy · F
No they just don't deserve to be rich but that's another question.

The real issue is how there was excessive media coverage, cries of empathy from the public, .... while migrants fleeing from famine, conflict and natural disasters drown every day and do not recieve the same aid, empathy and attention.

@Torsten Like I said billionaires are a system failure.
Inheriting small family businesses? No prob
Family home? No problem
But inheritance of large sums of money should be heavily taxed
Torsten · 36-40, M
@Gloomy smh

Disasters always attract the worst dregs of society..particularly on social media
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@SW-User Excellent point.
Magenta · F
Its repulsive isn't it. Yet how many of those vilifying, preach kindness.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
@Magenta Their kindness for humanity seems limited to certain groups.
Magenta · F
@Human1000 Oh. Yes indeed, selective kindness,
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@Magenta It is disgusting.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
I don't feel that way, although I think there could be questions about what types of resources are used in what types of situations to save people in peril.
IamCuriousBabe · 51-55, F
Nope. They're not merciless criminals. They knew the risks, but it was definitely unfortunate for that 19-year-old.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@IamCuriousBabe I agree.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I've seen this and it makes me ill. That's as absurd as poor people deserving to die. Pick your judgment.
They're just envious.

There's a prejudice that all gains are ill-gotten, which is the same stupidity as judging the poor as lazy.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@uncalled4 I makes me ill as well. Funny how they have sympathy when their favorite celebrity dies from an overdose though.
Torsten · 36-40, M
if they had come out as non binary or some shit, the same crowd that thinks they deserve to die due to being rich would be out crying in the street and making heroes out of them all.

think what this has truly shown is peoples lack of compassion for others
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@Torsten I think the point that most people were trying to make is the disproportionate amount of media coverage given to this incident compared to the sinking of a vessel in the Mediterranean in the previous week with the loss of as many 600 lives, and a boat in the North Atlantic in the same week with 30 confirmed dead. Possibly due to the latter two involving 'illegal' asylum seekers rather than affluent tourists. That in my view demonstrates a serious lack of compassion.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@SunshineGirl I completely agree with the overboard media coverage this got. However, what I don't agree with is all of the shitty memes and jokes being made. Not funny to me when people die. No matter how much they had in their bank account.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@MeowsoliniReturns Nor do I, and I didn't realise how tasteless and vicious some of those postings were when I first responded.
antonioioio · 70-79, M
It doesn't matter
Theirs no body getting out of this world alive 🌹
Eddiesolds · 61-69, M
No they don't
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
Meanwhile religious nuts won't take kindly to jokes about Jesus on the cross. I mean... too soon?
Degbeme · 70-79, M
@BarbossasHusband Nope ....

BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
@Degbeme you know why he was so popular? He was hung like this

Degbeme · 70-79, M
kartoffelkopf2 · 36-40, M
I genuinely dont think billionaires would participate in such ridiculously unsafe activities

after all they can afford to get advice from any of the worlds top/most experienced tech experts

interesting as to what their backgrounds are and whether or not its just a disappearing act from the public eye

it is as possible as anything else, for this reason i am disinterested. that would be gruesome way to go if true however, absolutely no chance at all
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@kartoffelkopf2 I don't think there was any conspiracy. Just a sad turn of events.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
They've gamed a lot against us. "Too big to fail" for their gambling debts. Ridiculously expensive health care - people don't seek treatment or fill their prescriptions due to cost. Inflated housing costs. Depressed pay. They own politicians who only make them richer at our expense.

They ask for ridicule when hubris gets them.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@Crazywaterspring And you KNOW that all rich people are this way?
SW-User
I do feel bad for the families..however…

Rich or poor…humans will always find new ways to die.

They signed at least 3 times on the first page of the agreement that they understood that death might be an outcome.

The recovery spectacle was a bit much.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@SW-User But THEY didn't ask for a spectacle. The media did that because they new it would generate revenue.
SW-User
Really · 80-89, M
I despise people who have enormous wealth when they use it not for any betterment of society but for their own amusement and titillation in very expensive stunts.

I also despise people who invite possibly gullible others to join them in very dangerous activities, pretending to know their equipment is safe; all while ignoring the contrary advice & warnings of real technical experts.
Rolexeo · 26-30, M
@Really people only know how to take, what do you offer in return?
Really · 80-89, M
@MeowsoliniReturns
Last I checked, rich people aren't required to donate anything to anyone. Would it be nice? Sure! Also, they can spend their money however they choose. If they want to take enormous risks, so be it.
Still, as a fellow human, I do not feel that they deserve to die, nor will I rejoice when tragedy befalls them. That is just sick.
None of this relates to anything I have said or believe. I do not suggest that rich people are 'required to donate' anything, or that anyone deserves to die; and there have been only a scant handful of figures (historical) at whose death I have 'rejoiced'. You'd be too young to remember any of them.

The fact that I despise certain behaviors gives you no right to pretend you are 'answering' comments I have not made.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@Really Whatever you say.
No one deserves to die but damn it was a billionaire who the hell builds a damn sub controlled with a $30 xbox controller and thinks its going to work out
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@ExperienceDLT On that, I completely agree. The way the sub was built was a joke
@MeowsoliniReturns and virtually untested
I heard it hadnt even been tested below 500 ft
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@ExperienceDLT Just awful.
No, of course not. However (and I’m not referring to any specific case) a bored rich person with more money than sense has the ability to wind up in really dangerous situations. 🙁
originnone · 61-69, M
@bijouxbroussard It does...but I sometimes feel the same way. I have a part time caregiver for my wife for a few hours per week, and she struggles financially. I help her in ways I can, but I don't want to be HER caregiver either....IDK...
@originnone That’s absolutely understandable. You’ve hired her to assist you.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard I agree. They took a huge risk.
reubles · 41-45, M
People died, it's not like they were all Epsteins and Hitlers (as far as I know). I don't see why anyone should be celebrating, how was this a success?
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@reubles I have no idea.
bookerdana · M
Most had no idea the small sub existed three days ago and will forget about it by next week........in the tweet age we forget simple common humanity
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@bookerdana Excellent point.
RedBaron · M
Can you imagine the posts about Titanic if social media had been a thing in 1912?
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@RedBaron Ugh. I am sure they would have some how deserved it because they were well off.
Of course not. You know how people are.. It's just easy to make jokes when you don't know the victims personally.
No , but I can't feel empathic towards them considering the circumstances
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@PepsiColaP I think it's awful how they died. They may have been fools, but I don't think anyone deserves to go out like that.
antonioioio · 70-79, M
Most rich people I are unhappy
Being rich is knowing when you have enough
SW-User
That was kind of the premise of the French Revolution
HannahSky · F
No they don't. The youngest was 19.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
There was an episode in Babylon 5 where one of the main characters say something like, " I know life's not fair. Some people get what they don't deserve. But can you imagine if it was fair and we got what we deserved for everything we did?!"
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@Tastyfrzz Excellent point
This one did.

I don't know about the rest, but I'm guessing they did too.

@MeowsoliniReturns
Can you try to be respectful when you don't agree with someone?
Nah.
Not really. It's just interesting that Europe and the USA are warriors with no room for the people who arrive. It's obviously a sign that they're willing to kill for their comfort zone.
It isn't that they "deserve" to die, it's just that they will die, like everyone else. Their material possessions will not save them.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@Cassie2083 But there are many who seem to think that because they are rich they must be awful, greedy people and therefore it is fair game to joke and make memes about their deaths.
SW-User
Nothing to get from sheer stupidity.
SW-User
@MeowsoliniReturns To say rich people deserve to die, shouldn't make sense, it's uttered by someone who doesn't understand things properly.
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@SW-User I see. I think I misunderstood.

@MeowsoliniReturns 🙂✌️

Death is always sad, even when the people are terrible. They will always have good parts and do deserve to be mourned.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
Very disappointing that people on SW I had respected took this position. And, no distinction for the 19 year old.
Human1000 · 51-55, M
I see envy masked as righteousness.

@OogieBoogie You make solid points and I completely agree with them. I guess what disturbs me is all the laughing people are doing about it. Really unnecessary and inhumane.
@MeowsoliniReturns many use laughter to deal with sadness and anger , but yeah, it is kinda waaay too soon.
Admittedly I laughed at a few memes till I read up about it and watched some videos on it .

I'm mostly horrified at the ignorance of it all. I can't believe they got in that thing to go that deep....it looked like a toy, like someone's back yard project !
MeowsoliniReturns · 51-55, F
@OogieBoogie Completely agree!

@Misspotat Not me. I have a painting of myself in my room. The picture of me ages, but I stay the same.
