Abortion rights in USA

I know this is a topic that will ignite some pretty hardline feelings in a lot of people, I’ll limit my say on the matter to the fact that I’m stunned that an advanced country like America is having to even have this discussion in 2022.

It marks the only occasion I've been able to find of the Supreme Court actually taking away people's rights. Regardless of how you feel about abortion, that is a scary concept that nine people can rob you of your freedoms overnight. It makes you wonder what else could be next. How much more progress could be undone by political activists on the highest court?
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
@Chrisy3 Blame your state's legislators if they don't vote how you want on abortion bills, then vote them out of office. The SCOTUS simply and correctly ruled that there is no federal right to an abortion in the U.S. constitution and they gave each state the right to determine abortion rights for its citizens. That is democracy working as it should. In 1973, the SCOTUS negated the 10th amendment and took from the people the right to determine what is right for them regarding abortion.

@TinyViolins Oh, it goes deeper than just 9 people. 😔 Politics is a game with the politicians as puppets. We need to get at the ones hiding behind the certain.....like on the wizard of oz!

Its a sad time for woman, what rights will be taken away next?
Like gay marriage. What did it have to do with anybody.. ? 🤷‍♂️
what ever happened between a dr/patient confidentiality?

It never was, is any bodies business. But somehow you all let government into your lives..

Here’s my take..
dems dont like guns/NRA. Solely because of the political donations recycled back to republicans for election campaigns.

Same could be said for planned parenthood and the dems recycling cash back to democrat election campaigns.

Neither side give a shit about either of these topics from a moral/ethical stance..

Peace out

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout You aren't wrong. Both parties suck and are both evil. Also Republicans just cost themselves a lot of support because they supported a very unconstitutional gun control bill, that of course btw will do absolutely nothing to stop gun violence. It's as dumb as thinking taking cars away from people will save them from car accidents. You can still get into a car accident if you're a pedestrian. So that doesn't solve the issue. Our politicians are a joke.
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout They INSIST on having more government, it's absolutely mind blowing.

It's not surprising really.

Basic health care actually isn't a right.
Housing isn't a right.
Food isn't a right.
Even education really isn't considered a right.

None of that is in the constitution.

That's is why I am not surprised.

Disappointed, yet not surprised. 😞

All of that if it's even there, can simply be taken away by individual states. Such is this so called "States rights".

This shows what a Democratic-Republic really is. A republic that is "slightly" modified by democracy. And I do mean slightly.

Is America so advanced though? seems its been on the decline for a fair few years now
BlueVeins · 22-25
@Torsten like world war 2 at the earliest

the suburban experiment has failed
BlueVeins · 22-25
Sad part is that's just the tip of the iceberg. If they succeed at dismantling democracy -- and god knows they're trying -- they will be unconstrained by their ability to manufacture consent. Only then, will they be able to implement most of their agenda.

It's not going to stop there. We are overwhelmed with rotten people in this country. Trump made that a cold fact.
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
Let's just examine that word "advanced"
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@ozgirl512 Followed by "regression"
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
The uS is no longer the land of the free
StrictSouthernHOH · 46-50, M
@Strictmichael75 There are no state elections?
It's not something that the FED should ever have controlled anyway. It placed the decision back to State level government.
Bleach14443 · 22-25, M
It’s pretty sad honestly and frustrating this is the path our nation is going down
Chrisy3 · 18-21, F
@Bleach14443 yeah, I don’t live in the US, but from the limited info I’ve seen, it seems strange to go backwards on something like that.
Bleach14443 · 22-25, M
@Chrisy3 It is strange it’s due to how our ridiculous courts power is set up and how seats are filled

I'm stunned at this dumbshit you've written
Chrisy3 · 18-21, F
An interesting take for a person ‘claiming’ to be a female on here 😉👍@SW-User

@Chrisy3 So very true!
Many of us over here are horrified at the reactionary primitiveness of our countrymen
Right?
RebelHeart · 36-40, F
I live in the uk but my heart goes out to american people having this all going on right now. Makes me so sad 💔
KrakM · 18-21, M
To be fair, the new laws will likely be in line with europe’s and aus+nz
Bertie · 46-50, F
Me too.....AND that race, the color of someone's skin is still an issue?!😟
Honestly, many of us are. The last poll indicated that a majority of Americans supported a woman’s right to choose. With the last administration, one political faction was able to hijack our Supreme Court and stack it with a majority conservative make up, instead of an equal number of voices representing both sides. So basically the highest court in the land no longer represents what the majority of our people actually want. Hard to know how things will go from here. But it’s not over.
pdockal · 56-60, M
Why are you stunned ??????
