What phrase annoys you immediately when you hear it?

Top | New | Old
I love that for you.

Telling my truth.

Being intentional.

🤮
@OlderSometimesWiser that first one makes me want to throat punch ...it's so condescending

From the world of work:

So what does success look like?

Going forward (as if time occasionally reverses in the office)

Let's unpack this (no, let's not, I had to jump up and down on the suitcase to fit everything in 🙄)

From the world of estate agency:

The house is deceptively large (it may well be, but I suspect you mean deceptively small, as in rooms that are actually larger than they appear from first glance)

And the all time winner:

Having your cake and eating it (I will be available after class for anyone who needs this to be explained 😔)
@Lostpoet No kidding ?
I knew what it actually meant. 😅
Lostpoet · M
@bijouxbroussard I just don't understand why it confuses people.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@bijouxbroussard That's a marked improvement on the original misquotation!
AdmiralPrune · 46-50, M
I was today years old when I learned

Unalived

The x nobody asked for but we all needed.
BluntSm0ker · 100+, M
@AdmiralPrune
Unalived didn't come from nothing, its from YouTube flagging words like "killed" so YouTubers had to come up with other ways of saying it.
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
@BluntSm0ker An interesting note on language evolution 🙂
BluntSm0ker · 100+, M
@SunshineGirl
Indeed.

From real estate...
Has charm and potential... Short hand for needs a bulldozer
From employment... We're all in this together... Yeah right, except your getting paid 9 times more than me to put up with this shit

From politics... We can see light at the end of tunnel,. Another bloody train going in the wrong direction

It'll be over in 4 weeks....
Anything that Trump says 😜
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
"God has his ways"

"Everything happens for a reason"

"At the end of the day"

Do the needful
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
@InterdimensionalSideEye Indian IT Contractors say it when they want you to do something
@SumKindaMunster I’m going to be using it all the time in our dm’s. On purpose.
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
kodiac · 26-30, M
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, followed closely by it's for your own good
Boeing · 36-40
"At least you get to..." - uhm. yeah, but the elephant in the room..

"Support the artists" as if you are not doing any work and you are not elligible to be paid for it, rather you are considered to be on the list to be supported.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
To be fair... (when it is used completely erroneously with nothing to do with being fair.)

To be perfectly frank with you... (haven't you been so until now?)

Personally, speaking for myself, I think... (first 4 words are redundant)

Sneek preview... A preview is offered openly by whoever is marketing the goods.
EndlessHorizon · 46-50, M
“It’s been a minute”
It is what it is

No offense, but..
SumKindaMunster · 56-60, M
@Bexsy No offense, but....then proceeds to say something obnoxiously offensive.
BrandonWyatt36 · 36-40, M
That Stupid Snapping noise on the Domino's Pizza Ads on YouTube... I HATE them stupid YouTube Ads when I am trying to watch something 🤬🤬🤬🙅🙅🙅🚫🚫🚫🛑🛑🛑
GoldnJulz · 46-50, F
When the word “journey” is used to describe someone’s experience(s)
It just annoys me…
@GoldnJulz ha ha I just used that one.
SkeetSkeet · 100+, F
People and their stupid bingo cards
woodshedboy · 51-55, M
It is what it is
RedBaron · M
“It is what it is.”

It’s not as if whatever “it” is isn’t that.
It’s less about the phrase and more about the context. I despise when people treat their personal perception as absolute reality to justify their epistemic arrogance. It’s just a lazy excuse to force their narrative onto everyone else.
"Artificial Intelligence".
Gibbon · 70-79, M
Like whatever

Unalived

You know what I mean. Um no I don't I'm not a mind reader
WanderingHelplessly · 51-55, MNew
When people say "Bro," but it comes out like "Brahh"
@WanderingHelplessly common in my country.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Something "iconic." That word means so much it means nothing. It's like totally random, dude!
BigBongTheorist · 51-55, M
I don't mean to ____, but.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@BigBongTheorist but I'm going to anyway.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
All the new bullshit slang and already existing words used incorrectly. The newest one I noticed was larping. Larping already has a definition, don't come at me with the bullshit that it allegedly means something else now. I wish I could slap everyone participating in this nonsense and spreading it further.
NPC is another example.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@CrazyMusicLover LARPing, isn’t that where you dress up in costumes and attack each other with foam swords?
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@Thevy29 Yes, that's larping.
"Things could always be worse."
(statement of the obvious, and often dismissive as hell)

Anyone using the term "woke" who doesn’t know the term’s very specific origin.
When and why did people start saying unalive and SA ? Instead of what it actually means ?pffft stupid
@Chern0bylplaygr0unds When electronic media stopped allowing the actual words to be used.

You can COMMIT SA and unaliving. You just can’t talk about it. Same with abuse, or “the ‘r’ word.”
