Saw my rheumatologist last week and finally agreed to some pain meds. Pregabalin for fibromyalgia.

I just got the courage to take one tonight. I'm not a fan of meds and don't take anything on a regular basis except a multivitamin.

I can't believe I'm not in pain. I wasn't exhausted, pushing through it and grumpy. It allowed me patience with my son. I stretched and could actually feel the stretch. I could feel my body, not just radiant pain and nausea. I can relax myself. I'm not even sleepy now, I want to go for a hike or dancing or something 🥲

I think I've been in physical pain for years, not depressed.

I'm curious to see how long the affects last. Sometimes it's helpful to get a bit of relief and that gives me a couple days before the pain builds back up.

I take a very tiny dose of muscle relaxer when it's really bad but that stuff makes me groggy for days. It doesn't help that much. I'm very sensitive to meds, the smallest dose is always plenty, sometimes too much.

But yeah, I forgot what life could feel like. I just enjoyed my evening. I feel like me.

I'm so glad. Sometimes we really need something to help us. I deal with jaw pain a lot from TMJ but I don't like meds like you. If it gets HORRIBLE, I had to call my doctor because even Advil prescription strength did not help. They gave me a muscle relaxer and it helped so much.
I'm glad pregabalin helped. My sister took it for neuropathy pain and it didn't do anything.
Here's to feeling better with occasional help!🤗

Lyrica can be a godsend
We give it to all our post op patients as a nerve is cut during surgery and as it regrows it can help manage that nerve pain
It does unfortunately have a lot of side effects but they come with increasing the dosage typically and it sounds like you won’t be needing to do that as it’s already working well for you
Hope the regiment stays working for you for a very very long time 🤗

@ScreamingFox Oh yeah you’re nowhere near max dose
I had one patient get up to 450 mg daily after surgery once
But I think max dose is like 3600mg a day for short term care and 1200mg for chronic if properly monitored

So your 25 mg is fine 😅

@JRVanguard I've always been a lightweight lol

Thank you for the information and reassurance.

@ScreamingFox I’m so happy to hear how well it’s working for you🤗

A tip, try a spoonful of turmeric in a glass of water each morning, just before breakfast, It won't cure the problem but it will naturally ease the symptoms and has many other benefits.
I have arthritis and sciatica, after following this advice for 18 months I'm almost free from pain and completely free from prescription meds.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@BlobbyMcBlobface thank you for sharing this. I love turmeric and the doc suggested it and ginger as well. I don't want the meds, but I really need help
BlobbyMcBlobface · 100+, M
@ScreamingFox I just use a standard jar of turmeric from the supermarket, much cheaper than the supplements from health food shops. It has to be taken with an absorbent so I always have it immediately before breakfast. Ginger is also a good anti inflammatory so maybe mix the two together?
I hope you find something that helps.
I take 50mg twice a day in addition to my antidepressant, for anxiety. No side effects at all and it's made a big difference to my general state of anxiety. Nothing can stop everything but if 90% of the time I'm better off then it's a huge win.

@ostfuidctyvm that's amazing. I'm so glad you found something that works for you because I'm thinking the pain sets off the unending cycle of misery. Like you'll never feel good again. It feels like a win just to stretch and sleep like a normal person.
SlippingAway · 46-50, F
That's great news, it's important to get some relief when you can. Chronic pain is so heavy, and I am glad you found something that helps.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@SlippingAway so heavy. Didn't realize how much it was taking from me.

I know chronic pain can be debilitating and lead to depression so glad to hear you got relief. Now a good nights sleep will really make you feel whole again.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@SageWanderer I slept so good. Still having nightmarish dreams but I get to work on that in therapy.
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@ScreamingFox Msybe a few days without pain will reduce your nightmares too.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@SageWanderer I don't feel hopeless right now either. That's such a a big improvement. I feel like I can accomplish something, not just going to crumple up worthlessly.
Pregabalin it a great drug for nerve pain. I hope it works for you.
My aunt had fibromyalgia. I think it's a temporary condition that eventually leaves you? She had it for I think 4 years then it never bothered her again.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
So happy that worked for you. I know what it is to be in constant pain. 🤗
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@Livingwell it's hard to exist
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
That's really wonderful to read. Nobody deserves to be in chronic pain and it destroys so much of your life.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@CountScrofula I forgot what it felt like to stand up straight. It's like I still have a shot at life.

Definitely take the meds. I'd take it over pain any day. 👍🏻
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I will say that once you start Pregabalin, you do not want to stop. The withdrawals are worse than the symptoms you're treating.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@LordShadowfire I've only taken it once and don't plan to take it everyday, so I'll see how my experience goes.
Great, how are you feeling tonight? Otherwise I mean
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@Bexsy I feel my spirits lifted. I'm remembering what my body is capable of. This is amazing.
@ScreamingFox i'm very happy to hear that. Hopefully just gets better
LavidaRaq · F
That’s great.. so happy for you.
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@LavidaRaq thank you 🖤
That's amazing. Happy for you😊
Hey, that's great! 😃
ScreamingFox · 41-45, F
@NudasPriest I can't believe I can feel my body. I am so used to pain and it's taking too much.
@ScreamingFox A new chapter begins.
