At what age did you feel the happiest with yourself?

Has there been a period in your life where you felt happiest, confident in yourself or that you had it all together?
Spumoni · 46-50, M
Right now. A new appreciation for life
lovelychicadee · 46-50, F
sounds pretty great!@Spumoni

I think for myself it was when I was 27-28. Life just sort of all lined up. I was making good money, had a great social life, a positive loving relationship and not a lot of stress. I felt very good about myself and the direction life was headed.
lonelyloner · 31-35, F
don't know happiest or not but for me from 15 to 17 plus was so memorable for me as during time i was daring and careless about society and did anything i wish to do that time i feel life was like a dream for me
Luckylu · 61-69, F
Never but probably the best at this moment.

Happiest with myself
That's an interesting question.

I think you go through certain periods in life that challenge you beyond your own comfort zones and into other people's world's.

There you have to battle other forces that have no interest in making you feel comfortable.
In fact you can often get the impression that you are the one likely to be scapegoated for their system failures or operatives failures because no one in charge wants to take any form of responsibility.

So you take all this in, try and ask the right questions and eventually come to the conclusion that maybe you're not the terrible employee/Parent/patient/etc.
And gradually your belief in yourself grows

If you're smart you steer clear of anything that allows a person in authority to use cop-out statements absolving them of responsibility.
"Oh we don't do that anymore".
"We're changing our terms...that we signed up to"
etc.

But it takes time; belief in yourself and the sad realization that people and organisations that you think are supposed to serve you, are actually self-serving complex and very fragile to the point of being close to useless at the point where you need them most.

well said@Picklebobble2
Confidence is highest it’s ever been though happiness and togetherness could be improved
Lumberjack70 · 56-60, M
Probably now, in my 50’s. I’m more confident in myself than I’ve ever been. I know what I want, need, and am working toward. I’m emotionally stable enough to be a good dad to my kids as they turn into adults. I’m not perfect, but I’m good.

I think I felt the most optimistic and at peace when I was 19 but then I met someone that destroyed my sense of self so it didn't last long. I've never felt like I have anything together.
lovelychicadee · 46-50, F
unfortunately it doesn't take much to derail things does it @SW-User
Wynsome · 41-45, F

Honestly, during school age to my early teens. High school was when my life started going downhill. I missed having a simple and easy childhood being surrounded by friendly classmates.
cd1019 · 41-45, M
My late 20s...had a good job, plenty of money, was coming up in the world, my parents were in relatively good health and got to travel on a fairly regular basis.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
Not quite everything but happiest and most confident was when I was about 19-20, half way through my degree and in love and committed for the first time, really.
Bearsfan67 · 56-60, M
Things were great in my mid thirties. After my marriage became toxic and I made positive changes, after a dark time things are better than ever now.
being · 36-40, F
Around 22-24 I was cycling, attending the fine arts, creating what I was truly feeling to be art, listening to music I was really into, having beautiful and very long hair, enjoying my coffee and smokes every morning, having a boyfriend I really loved, watching movies that were deep and inspirational, reading books and poetry that was all so lovely...
But time's changed.. but it was lovely..❤️
lovelychicadee · 46-50, F
sounds like a wonderful time@being
Torsten · 36-40, M

thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
Nope, not particularly. I've always just been surviving haha.

Never been a big fan of myself. :)
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
The two weeks I spent at my grandparents, when I was 6 is the only time I can think of.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Maybe early 40s because I was at my peak physically and mentally I was going up.
SW-User
19, I peaked at Uni. Had few worries.
lovelychicadee · 46-50, F
ah simple times right!@SW-User
SW-User
@lovelychicadee Yes, I think it is the lack of worry.

No health problems in the family.
No girlfriend problems
No financial worries.
SW-User
@SW-User Compare that with twenty.

You try to keep a potential suicidal alive.

My 30s
I had a decent job
I was popular with my friends
I had hope
Northerner · 70-79, M
Yes right now. at my age I have nothing to prove to people😁
Allelse · 36-40, M
Probably just before I started school, I was like 3 or 4 and I spent most of my time with my grandparents and we'd do all sorts of stuff together. My Dad was doing his best to be on his best behaviour, I mean life wasn't perfect by any means but, I dunno, life just seemed to get worst after I started school.
Elisbch · M
What @Luckylu said.... except not the best at this moment.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F

Yes, the year I lived and traveled in a van with my son. I had more confidence and more joy than I'd ever experienced. I miss it.
lovelychicadee · 46-50, F
sounds pretty incredible@SW-User
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
Everytime I'm there for people and animals. But in my life it's only been temporary periods before some new trauma happened.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
When I had my first job. I don't remember if I ever felt like I had it all together but I felt more confident than usual.
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
18, because it was everything my 17 year old self should have been. (well... almost everything)
Baremine · 70-79, C
41. Sexy, in control confident. Then my back went out. Still was on top of the world .
SW-User
In general, the older I get the happier I get.
lovelychicadee · 46-50, F
I wish this for so many people. That is great :)@SW-User
djjohnson · 41-45, M
Physically I’d say early 30’s. Mentally, between 38-40.
I feel like that age is always whatever is my current age
Lol .. I'm not overly familiar with that feeling ;-)
2 months old
iamBen · M
I'm my 40s
BLP11520 · 61-69, M
At around 40-45, I think. I was at the top of my game career-wise, so I had a little bit of money. And I still looked pretty decent.
caccoon · 36-40
Now, and I hope it continues to get better
