Today, I saw something that reinforced my radical belief that smartphones should be banned.

This young lady was with her toddler waiting on the signal to cross the intersection. Instead of paying attention to her child, she was looking at her phone. The toddler literally stepped into the street while traffic was coming. I didn't see what happened afterwards. I kept driving (I could not have possibly had time to stop and do anything...) but was praying the child would be safe.

Last night, I was in the emergency room due to Status epiliepticus (seizures) The ER nurse was on her phone the entire two hours I was being treated. I wanted to shove here phone somewhere the sun don't while. Believe that!

@Justice4All They went along with the signs that read, "Treating your pain is our first priority" They just stopped caring about medical thics.
@Grateful4you Where I go to the doctor you have to put your phone away once you come in, and that goes for the staff, as well. I’ve seen people asked to go outside if they need to use their phone. A nurse such as the one you encountered would be risking her job.
That's awful and SO irresponsible. I agree with you. Or set a little self-discipline and not be on your phone when you're driving or walking.

@Justice4All You're so right. I was only addressing the issue at hand, though, but I totally agree. It's awful.
If a police officer was there, she probably could have been charged with child endangerment.

I really don't think banning "smartphones", would change the behavior of distracted or negligent care-takers of children. IF that toddler was hit by a car, it would almost surely have been someone with a "smartphone" who called 911.

I wonder if it classifies as homicide if the child would be ran over and die and someone could witness her mom staring at the screen.

I think it should.

@Justice4All Here it's illegal to look at the phone or talk on the phone while driving. You get a Fee if caught.
Some people drive irresponsibly (quite a few, in fact)

Should all cars be banned ? 🤨
@Justice4All I don’t own a car. But I’m in the minority. Do you ? Some kinds of behavior can’t be fixed via legislation, unfortunately. That’s the problem we’re facing with guns, too.

@Justice4All woah woah not everyone can have a car? You do understand that no laws apply to the wealthy class. All this stuff just creates a bigger drift between classes and a lot of bad blood. Just make driving tests harder. Make the fines heavier. Just stuff that would make people drive responsibly.

I am tpying this on a smart phone.
Wouldn't dream of being on it when I'm crossing a busy street with a child.
The phones might be smart, but the people aren't.

This has nothing to do with smart phones, thats parenting issue where time on screen is more important than their child

People crossing the street and not paying attention to cars......People in restaurants not talking to each other but looking at ...what ??? on their phones. Parents not talking to each other nor paying attention to their kids in Ikea.

Close relative of mine checking the phone to see if it was snowing lol...Just open the fukking door !

@Justice4All yes. The phone is a brainwashing technology. It is sad when i see older people who try to act like 20 year olds and are stuck in their phones all the time. Very passive aggressive activity
