Today, I saw something that reinforced my radical belief that smartphones should be banned.

This young lady was with her toddler waiting on the signal to cross the intersection. Instead of paying attention to her child, she was looking at her phone. The toddler literally stepped into the street while traffic was coming. I didn't see what happened afterwards. I kept driving (I could not have possibly had time to stop and do anything...) but was praying the child would be safe.

Some people drive irresponsibly (quite a few, in fact)

Should all cars be banned ? 馃え

@bijouxbroussard No but we can do somethings to reduce those accidents, e.g, traffic laws. Personally, I think we should limit the number of cars on the road and in doing so, the government should ban private ownership of automobiles. Everyone can't have a car. Streets are already congested and most people can't drive
@Justice4All I don鈥檛 own a car. But I鈥檓 in the minority. Do you ? Some kinds of behavior can鈥檛 be fixed via legislation, unfortunately. That鈥檚 the problem we鈥檙e facing with guns, too.

@Justice4All woah woah not everyone can have a car? You do understand that no laws apply to the wealthy class. All this stuff just creates a bigger drift between classes and a lot of bad blood. Just make driving tests harder. Make the fines heavier. Just stuff that would make people drive responsibly.

Energy consumption is also an issue. Whether we are using EVs or gasoline powered engines, we are emitting enormous levels of greenhouse gases. Imagine if the rest of the world, including Africa, were creating the same level of greenhouse gas as the US and China...

The US has to be responsible. We have contributed to 30% of greenhouse emissions in the last 200 years. Recently, industrialized China has started to surpass us but per capita we maintain a larger carbon footprint.

Elon Musk and the crony capitalists aren't going to like the idea. They don't give a F about future generations. They think they are going to populate Mars and problem solved. We are rapidly depleting the earth of natural resources. There will come a time in the world where resources are going to be scarce.

For the meantime, the West robs poor nations of natural resources and leave them un-industrialized. They never want them to industrilize because it would eat into the resources we need to maintain this standard of living.
