Hello again my friends! I have a question if you don't mind

What is the definition of "real life?"

I hear those words thrown around a lot, yet I don't really know what it means. Many say that the the internet ( this is just one example) isn't real life, but everything in our life is real, which includes the internet.

Can someone enlighten me on this subject?

I truly appreciate your time and feedback <3
I think of real life as the life your loved ones, people who are around you experience with you. Online? this is basically make believe with one foot holding firmly to the ground of reality.

@nonsensiclesnail dreams are real my friend. Everyone dreams, even if they don't remember. There are many scientific studies to prove that. What you dream about does happen to you. It affects your brain. So yes, if you dreamt something, it is real.
@RIPKAW and you consider your dreams reality?
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@nonsensiclesnail yes. I do dream vividly, and they very clearly affect me.

Tell me, if dreams aren't real life, how does something that is fake or not reality have affects on me. When I have a sad dream I feel sad. When I have happy dreams I feel happy. How does something that doesn't exist affect me at all? When I was younger I went to a sleep specialist because my dreams were so intense. After the sleep study the doctor showed me my brain activity chart. He said that when I dream my brainwaves are off the charts. He told me that when I was dreaming, my brain reacted to the dreams. That my brain works harder when I'm dreaming than the average person's brain when they are awake. He said he had never seen brainwaves so active before during dreams. Everyone's brain reacts to dreams and that is very real. Dreams are reality. Most people don't truly understand dreams, so they write them off as not real. It's a security of sorts, because people fear what they don't understand. If dreams aren't real, they can't hurt you. It puts their mind at ease.

Long story short, yes I do consider my dreams reality because I know that all dreams are reality, for everyone.
I don’t feel SW or social media is real life. Real life is the place where people would show up for you and not act like you’re a nitwit for having a bad day. People say a lot of shit on here they don’t mean, they’re crueler than they would be face to face.

@BrokenAbyss why a doctor? Are you sick?

I believe that everyone deals with sadness, but you don't have to be a slave to despair. I was completely consumed by misery and hatred my entire life, but I've finally decided to fight back. To break the chains that bound me. To take my life back.

I 100% believe you can too! Nothing is set in stone, a life of sadness included. You have the strength within you. I believe in you
@RIPKAW I was always really happy, bubbling with joy, until my family died. Until all the dirty secrets came out and I felt like all my love was a lie. For nothing. I have health issues, lumps in breasts and I likely need a hysterectomy. Now it’s just my son and I for years. How can I care for him when I have surgeries, when I need to recover? It’s too much on me 24/7 and there’s no fix. Someone would have to be here with us, but there is no one. I’m not enough alone, but I do my best every day. I’m in the worst possible location I could be in, but I have to deal with these things. There’s only so much a person can take 😂
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@BrokenAbyss you sound like a warrior to me. You have been through so much, yet you are still standing. I bet you have a vibrant soul, but you can't feel it because it's chained deep down in the dark. Even the strongest of people can fall to the weight of this world when they have to bear the burden alone.

I refuse to let this world beat you down. I am here for you if you allow me to be. Even if you don't, I will keep you in my thoughts. I believe in you! <3

When I say in real life, I mean in person or exists materially. The internet is not a real place as much as it is a clever tool to send information back and forth. What's on the internet can affect you in real life but itself it is not a real place and it just sends messages.
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@Misanthropic you are questioning my character and intentions. That is a direct attack. I understood where you were coming from, and I was challenging it. I value knowledge. Thinking outside the box. Learning. Questioning what is known to discover the unknown.

You say you aren't attacking me, and in the same sentence you attack me by telling me that I'm activity trying to do you wrong. Rather than trying to convince me to believe your opinion. It seems like there is a lot of insecurities there. I hope you can overcome those demons
Misanthropic · 26-30, M
@RIPKAW I'm done with the debate here as I said I think you are twisting my words which doesn't promote knowledge or healthy debate.. however I'll leave this final reply in response to you thinking I am attacking you because I am not.

Questioning your intentions and saying you are misinterpreting my words isn't an attack, it is what I believe you are doing so I am pointing it out as reason to stop engaging. A direct attack would be me calling you names, swearing at you, spreading lies about you, so many ways one can attack a person but I haven't done any of those to you. You can choose to see it as an attack but it isn't because that implies I intend to damage you which I have no interest in doing. Goodbye.

@Misanthropic feel better soon my friend 💕

Everyone will have their own definition on this... From those that got conned in some, to those who just watch a sunset and appreciate the beauty of a simple things..
It's what you live and enjoy I guess
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@Convivial so if everyone has their own definition, why do many agree that being online isn't really living? That it's fake?
Convivial · 26-30, F
@RIPKAW not at all, is just a part of life, not life itself
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@Convivial everything we do on this planet is real life. Everything that exist is real. The internet exist. I don't believe anything isn't real. The term "real life" doesn't make any sense when you really think about it. I'm having a conversation with you online right now, and this is happening. It's real.
I think when you see it slung around SW, it means offline.
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@NoGamesTolerated so something is set in stone when when countered? Kind of like how people had evidence that the sun revolved around the earth. This was eventually proven incorrect because it was questioned. It's dangerous to simply accept what we are told.
@RIPKAW You totally took what I said wrong. TOTALLY! Have a nice day/night.
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@NoGamesTolerated okay. Best wishes my friend <3
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Living in the moment and enjoying many of the things you get to do
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@cherokeepatti but you can live in the moment when using the internet. How isn't it real life?
PurpleBearCub · 31-35, F
A better term would be in person.
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@PurpleBearCub what do you think caused people to use the term real life in the first place?
PurpleBearCub · 31-35, F
@RIPKAW sometimes people can lead 2 different lives. One online. And one offline (or in real.life)
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@PurpleBearCub but both of those lives are real. Both of those lives are that person
When I say it, what I mean is offline, face to face everyday life. I consider the friends I’ve made online "real", they’re real people, of course.
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard so the internet is real life? If that is the case, people are misguided. The term shouldnt be used because it carries a strong message that hurts lots of people
@RIPKAW You may notice, I’m not arguing with you.
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard I'm not trying to argue either. Im trying to have a deep conversation :)

The World Wide Web turned 20-years-old last week. So it seems time that we got something straight, something that has been bugging me for ages: The Web is “real life,” not some separate realm of existence. And we would do ourselves a favor by thinking of it that way – because until we do, many of the problems that exist because of the Web, from dwindling online privacy to shameful vitriol to virtual witch hunts, will continue to hold us hostage
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@Lilnonames I agree with you. So why do you think people claim that certain things in our life aren't real?
