Hello again my friends! I have a question if you don't mind

What is the definition of "real life?"

I hear those words thrown around a lot, yet I don't really know what it means. Many say that the the internet ( this is just one example) isn't real life, but everything in our life is real, which includes the internet.

Can someone enlighten me on this subject?

I truly appreciate your time and feedback <3

I think of real life as the life your loved ones, people who are around you experience with you. Online? this is basically make believe with one foot holding firmly to the ground of reality.

@nonsensiclesnail so the cruel hate online isnt real? The pain and suffering of many, and those that commit suicide ? It's make believe?

I'm not being a jerk I promise. I'm simply curious what you think
@RIPKAW Thats where the one foot planted in reality comes from. They are often real people and the consequences are real. but the situations are.... questionable in their own reality. How often are problems because someone can't read or something in misinterpreted? How much pain and suffering is egged on by the cruelty of people who think they are hilarious and brilliant? How much more healthy is your mind when you walk away from those people? Where in real life, they might be your school mates or your coworkers.
You can walk away from everyone you know here and in a years time a few might remember you, maybe. If you knew them well. We can create all the drama we want and pull others into it, but unlike "real life" no one is actually forced to participate without their consent.

Our minds are incredibly powerful and we can make things feel and seem real that are nothing but stories. And thats what a lot of this is, stories. Like a real living choose your own adventure novel, only from your couch or desk chair. Now if people acted on what they say, that makes it more real. But most people online are about ifs, when's, and I wills. Nothing with any real life consequences unless one person acts and the other disappears into the abyss or the random name generator and makes themselves into someone new. Or if they both act and starts a new life together, or just meet and see the reality of what they thought they knew all alone.

@nonsensiclesnail everything you just mentioned takes place during different people's lifetimes. It's experiences within a life. You can look back on your life and remember this conversation. It happened. This is a real experience that we had during our lives. This isn't fake
@RIPKAW but when you know all about it and no one else in your life does. It's not like you're going to run into sinlessonslaught in the grocery store are at one of your kids games and reminisce. You're not going to go to a party and have half the people here that you know run into you. It's all very compartmentalized.

@nonsensiclesnail yet, if you are wearing a disguise, your family or friends wouldn't know it's you either. An online alias has a lot in common with a disguise. Not knowing about something doesn't make it not real. I'm never going to encounter the queen of England in the grocery store, but she is real
@RIPKAW sure, because her actions are a queens actions.

but if David from Tennessee is pretending to be a Canadian named Kerry and he's mad at you because you called him out for being a lying liar that lies does it matter in your day to day life or just online?
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@nonsensiclesnail if he did that to me, I would be experiencing someone who is pretending to be someone else. That would something that happened to me in my life. It's really happening. It's real.

So you are saying if the queen doesn't act like a queen, she isn't real? She would still be the queen whether she acts like a queen or not. Her actions don't define if she's real or not.
@RIPKAW right, but this is like saying, if you dreamt something than its real. it really happened to you.

@nonsensiclesnail dreams are real my friend. Everyone dreams, even if they don't remember. There are many scientific studies to prove that. What you dream about does happen to you. It affects your brain. So yes, if you dreamt something, it is real.
@RIPKAW and you consider your dreams reality?
RIPKAW · 31-35, M
@nonsensiclesnail yes. I do dream vividly, and they very clearly affect me.

Tell me, if dreams aren't real life, how does something that is fake or not reality have affects on me. When I have a sad dream I feel sad. When I have happy dreams I feel happy. How does something that doesn't exist affect me at all? When I was younger I went to a sleep specialist because my dreams were so intense. After the sleep study the doctor showed me my brain activity chart. He said that when I dream my brainwaves are off the charts. He told me that when I was dreaming, my brain reacted to the dreams. That my brain works harder when I'm dreaming than the average person's brain when they are awake. He said he had never seen brainwaves so active before during dreams. Everyone's brain reacts to dreams and that is very real. Dreams are reality. Most people don't truly understand dreams, so they write them off as not real. It's a security of sorts, because people fear what they don't understand. If dreams aren't real, they can't hurt you. It puts their mind at ease.

Long story short, yes I do consider my dreams reality because I know that all dreams are reality, for everyone.
