When was the last time someone said they had your back and actually meant it?

Do you find more people are honest or dishonest when saying that to you?
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M Best Comment
If they have to advertise something….something that isn’t obvious…it probably means they have to put an effort into it just to show it. Its temporary at best.
Or it comes with a price. An expensive price.

I try not to rely on anyone. Ive learned expectation only results in dissapointment.
:/
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@LunarOrbit Yep. Exactly. Me too.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@LadyBronte Thank you for BC. 🏆

My uncle who twice volunteered to fight in Vietnam as a marine. When I was down on my luck and last thousand dollars having to pack up all I had into a uhaul and tow my car 1,400 miles to his house. He never once asked for anything.
PatKirby · M
@LadyBronte
Ok I'll tell him, he'll appreciate that. You know he found me my latest tenant, without me even asking him. Happens to have worked for 29 years at the army base I work at. I noticed he rarely thinks about himself first, always about others first. I enjoy supporting the troops at my army job here at the base. You can tell the difference between the old war dogs from that era and the newer ones...

...but they're all brothers in a very real way.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@PatKirby I agree. A lot of difference. Not only in the military, but in all walks of life.

@PatKirby Semper Fi to Unc.

I recently found out someone had my back without ever even telling me about it and I'm grateful for that person
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SW-User You are fortunate.
nedkelly · 61-69, M
The only person who you can ever trust is yourself
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@nedkelly Exactly! This 100 times over.
bowman81 · M
It used to happen all the time when I was working. Usually only when needed. For that particular circumstance they had my back....or I had theirs. I meant it every single time, I would protect them to the best of my ability no matter what hell we were walking into. They meant it to. It was never meant to be a lifelong commitment, just a tactical statement of fact as we faced a particular problem. Rarely has it been necessary to have someone cover my back since those days. I don't use that term lightly nor figuratively.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@bowman81 You were fortunate then. No one should use that term lightly or without meaning. But they do.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
Me to self. :)
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Casheyane The only one you can count on for sure.
Casheyane · 31-35, F
@LadyBronte Me and God :)
exexec · 61-69, C
When I was playing golf and my ball came to rest next to a big alligator. My partner stood 20 yards away and said that he had my back. I'm sure he meant it.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@exexec Yes. I'm sure. 😂
Adogslife · 61-69, M
I’m not sure that’s ever happened to me.

Generally speaking, people tell you they care but they really don’t. They’re just casual friends or in the worst cases they just want something physically or financially.

I just judge over a long period and by their actions only. Words mean very little.

Unexpected actions are what I’m looking for - consistency too I suppose.

@LadyBronte Oooh, my very own participation trophy. 😂 How many years did that take? 😇
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Adogslife Like 5 or 6? Haha. You deserved one long before now but I'm always running behind. ;)
ArtieKat · M
If someone told me they had my back I would politely ask for it back!
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@ArtieKat I someone said they had it, you wouldnt need to. They're probably lying already!
SW-User
I think people use the saying flippantly all the time it’s just a saying. A handful of people I know have without them saying it because I have seen evidence.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SW-User People who say it, typically don't have your back.
SW-User
I understand that @LadyBronte

Most of my friends, it is no question. I don't hang around people I can't count on to have my back.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Roadsterrider Always a wise move! Always good to know who is trustworthy and who's nothing but hot air and unreliable.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@LadyBronte I don't make a lot of new friends, most of my friends have been friends for decades. I consider people as an acquaintance till I have known them for over a decade, then they might become friends.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Roadsterrider Good for you. I made the mistake of trusting someone before I'd known them a decade. Lesson learned.
smiler2012 · 56-60
i know for a hundred percent my brother and my best mate would back me to the hilt in times of trouble and i believe they would too [ladybronte]
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@smiler2012 It is wonderful to have someone to count on!

No one has said that to me.
Trust my parents had though. Naturally.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@cycleman Yes. Parents can be our greatest champions and protectors.
They never said it and no one ever had it.

Only when I was very young.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
romell · 51-55, M
Not long back n fucker turned out to be gay
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@romell Laughs. Maybe a different connotation in hisnwords.
Lonelyandyb · 36-40, M
Not sure ..

Those who've had my back have never needed to say it. They're just there when I need them to have my back.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SW-User I understand that.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
A friend loaned me 800 bucks in February for a month.
Saved my ass .
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@AthrillatheHunt That is pretty awesome!
Bang5luts · M
Dishonest, I'm afraid
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Bang5luts Same here. I will never again trust anyone who says they're honest, or they've got my back, or they're a good person. Laughs. Either actually show it or shut up and get out.
Bang5luts · M
@LadyBronte I'm with you on that. In the last 6 years I have learned that more often than not, the ones that say they are always honest or really care are liars that that are trying to convince you of something that isn't true
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@Bang5luts Bingo! Exactly this!!!
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
I only trust myself. It’s too hard to put my faith into anyone else.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@iamonfire696 Agreed. Wholeheartedly.
SW-User
Idk. I don't rely on anyone else because they have a tendency to let you down.
LadyBronte · 56-60, F
@SW-User Yep. Especially those who say it. You come to find out it's just words with no substance. Just as you find out those who say them are actually people with a great vocabulary but no substance within.
