I did the other day but felt ucnfortble
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Technically illegal here! On a drive test, they simply won't let you drive bare footed here. They will insist you put flat shoes on before they will test you.
Note the flat shoes! NO High heals either!

@ninalanyon they simply won't let you on a "drive test"! I know a few that have tried in California!
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@DeWayfarer That doesn't mean it is illegal to drive barefoot, just that the examiners have the usual irrational US fear of feet.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@ninalanyon and it doesn't mean it is legal either! 🤷♂️
In California I'm farely certain it's illegal! Unless there is some type of medical situation and that would have to be mentioned on the drivers license. Like disabled! Which would require a medical excuse from a practicing doctor.
Same situation with all kinds disabilities. It's mentioned on a driver's license in some way.
Note this is not true in other states! It doesn't "have" to be mentioned on a driver's license.

In Australia and or New Zealand it is not illegal to drive with bare feet or Jandals/Thongs/Flip Flops.
Personally I think Bare Feet are safer than Flip Flops.
However if your footwear compromises your ability to drive safely there are charges you may face if you have an accident.

Almost everyone wears shoes here when they drive 🤔
@Classified Weirdos
bowman81 · M
When I was learning to drive the "Urban Myth" was that you could be arrested for driving barefoot. I always drove with shoes or boots on anyway.
@bowman81 Yeah it seems a lot really believe it 😂
Rose0415 · 36-40, F
Well driving barefoot is illegal in some places, but I don't know how law enforcement would find out unless during a traffic stop.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@Rose0415 Where?

SW-User
I drive barefoot sometimes, but didn't learn to drive with bare feet.
JoeyFoxx · 56-60, M
I was taught that driving with anything other that a lace up shoe is dangerous
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
I like bare feet unless I’m going on the highway.

I always drive with feet bare, including when I was learning and on my test.I can feel everything,when the clutch engages,when the brakes touch the discs.By driving with my feet bare I am better connected to my car and it gives me superb control.
Hayleywg · 51-55, F
@tallpowerhouseblonde bare feet or sandals yes, never flip flops x
smiler2012 · 61-69
{@notladylike] a very perculiar thing never heard that one before 😄
@smiler2012 You’re welcome
Gangstress · 41-45, F
I swear it's illegal to drive in flip-flops over here lol
Yulianna · 26-30, F
@SW-User by that argument, being naked would keep you more in touch with your vehicle, and so a safer driver...

SW-User
@Yulianna I follow your logic, but it may distract some ? 🤩
Yulianna · 26-30, F
@SW-User not at all... simply make it compulsory to drive naked, for everyone. most of the sights would be so horrific, you would practice not looking...
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
That sounds like a fantastic way to get plantar warts.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User The very few times I've dated, I wouldn't kiss my partner because the human mouth grosses me out. Sharing a glass isn't quite as bad, although it's not exactly a pleasant notion.

SW-User
@BlueMetalChick But as you express you are asexual, where this man was/is not.
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
@SW-User It's how I found out I was.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
It's illegal here -- I think the law was written because the legislators were afraid people's bare feet would slip off the pedals.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@MethDozer You're right. I double-checked and it's not illegal here, but I found a comment from a lawyer that says in the case of an accident driving barefoot can be used against you as a possible cause. Interesting.
MethDozer · M
@ChipmunkErnie Yeah I know. It's ironic too because its common for race car drivers to go barefoot because it it gives better tactile feel ergo control and response times .
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@MethDozer Maybe they don't have sweaty feet?
AmbivalentFriability · 26-30
I have to wear shoes when I drive. Sometimes I will quickly go out without shoes and move my car so my mom can drive her car out of the garage, and it feels so haphazard 😅
@AmbivalentFriability I’m living on the edge 🩴
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
One time my Uber driver wasn’t wearing any shoes and I was disgusted
MethDozer · M
@TurtlePink I would be too.
in10RjFox · M
I think it's more Ladies thingy as I have seen my aunt and few more do that. But I don't and most men never do.
Also it's more a footwear thing I suppose ..

I thought it was illegal?
MethDozer · M
@HoraceGreenley it's a common myth in the US.
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
What do you wear?👀
@JRVanguard I just slip my shoes off and put them on the passenger side floor. I had no idea it was so controversial 🤷♀️
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
@Notladylike Burn the witch!

I have done, but really not a good idea tbh

I always drive with my hands. I never developed a system for how to operate the gas and break peddles with my feet on the steering wheel.
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
I've been driving in my bare feet ever since I got my driver's license. 👣
Elessar · 26-30, M
Over here you can get fined if you do lol, or worse, if you cause a crash the insurance company may refuse to pay.
@Elessar That seems like a stretch
Elessar · 26-30, M
@Notladylike I don't make the rules. The rationale is that if you're barefoot, wearing open shoes or wearing heels you might not be able to brake immediately and as efficaciously in case of an emergency, thus insurances could say that you've caused the incident.
th3r0n · 41-45, M
I sometimes drive barefoot or with socks on, I’m good at driving so that’s no big deal
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
I know a guy with no arms that drives a van with his feet.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
Due to all of the comments here I became curious as to if it was actually illegal in the USA so I looked it up.
Growing up every adult told me never to drive without shoes and I assumed that it was probably illegal but.... its not.
Here is a snip from an article online:
"Although every state technically deems barefoot driving a legal action, many have their own ways of saying it — and several still keep recommendations against the practice on their books. Here’s how official positions break down by state."

I am more prone to jerky movements with bare feet. I had a family friend that always took her shoes off to drive. She is the only person I have known to do this.
Oh and it might be illegal. Im not sure
Oh and it might be illegal. Im not sure
@REMsleep Yep that’s me always taking my shoes off, and it’s only now just occurred to me that not everyone does it 😂
bijouxbroussard · F
No. I never drove barefoot because I never went out barefoot. I kind of doubt it would’ve made any difference in the way I drive. 😳
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
It’s illegal to drive barefoot where I live

Nah, nobody really does that here. It's so uncommon a lot of people think it is illegal, even though it isn't on any US state.
