Is the absence of love the most abject pain?

love is overrated.
true pain is knowing it will only get worse before the end, if there is one.
I don’t share your view, but I respect it. I can totally understand the attempt to avoid pain. @UnlikelyTomato
@LukeTheDuke you can't avoid pain, it's everywhere.
but you can avoid distractions, dangers and risks.
I get what you’re saying. @UnlikelyTomato

No. Not even close.
Ok, what would you say is the most painful thing we have to deal with in life, or one of the most painful? @BlueVeins

@LukeTheDuke The most abject pain is being manipulated and abused by a self-contained hate machine, someone whose psychological sickness produces a form of emotional waste that gets directed at you for their convenience. Keeps you constantly exhausted, makes you lose your identity or prevents you from developing one to begin with.
It sounds like you’ve been through an awful lot. I hope you find some way to heal. @BlueVeins

I think the loss of love is more painful than love merely being absent.
Yes, many people disagree with the old saying: it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. @SW-User

Having experienced both the loss of love and the absence of love, I’d say the loss is an acute pain causing immense suffering for a period of time, but given time, it does heal. Absence of love is not acute pain, but is insidious in its destruction of the spirit and mental/emotional wellbeing. It lasts a lifetime, and never heals. When you have both ... the absence, then you find love, then lose it, then absence again ... the pain is unbearable. Therefore, I’d rather have love and lose it than never be loved at all. To live and not be loved is a torment. @SW-User
Thank you, a very thoughtful and thought-provoking answer. And I so agree with your view that to not be loved is a torment and the absence of love is so damaging to a person’s wellbeing. @Carissimi
Absolutely. I never was part of a family and that ruined my life and my health.
@LukeTheDuke Give my stories a read.
I’ll definitely give your stories a read. And thank you for being such a great contributor. Not only have you done good in your community you’ve also done it at EP and by the sounds off it on SW. You’re a good hearted man. @Anonymartyr
@LukeTheDuke Thank you. Not many feel that way about me here. I try to use my enormous downtime to solve the problems that oppress me and everyone else like me as opposed to simply making myself feel better. At the end of the day I am consoled by my effort, whether successful or not because unlike most people, I DID something about it.
Only if the love has been recently taken away.
Yes, recent loss of love can be deeply intense and painful. @GreenGoddess
Aww, I hope you’re not currently in this situation. @GreenGoddess
Love is the ultimate pain. Heartbreak is not easily mended.
Heartbreak can live within us permanently, at some level. @Snowvixen
