How do you deal with homophobic people?

I always like knowing how others deal with them. I live in a tourist town and had a lot of homophobic people in the town. Both me and my gf try to ignore it as best as possible. Or in a few cases we make comments back.

it depends on what they said. If it's clearly just bigoted crap I don't respond but if someone says something and I can tell they just haven't thought about the issue very much (marriage, adoption, whatever) then I'll try and walk them thru why LGBT are fighting for that right too

@Patty81 thay have all those rights
Not well. I don鈥檛 like bigots and have loved ones whom I鈥檇 protect with my life who are LGBT. 馃槧

Think of it this way: Why should you care what a bunch of rude, backwards, narrow-minded hate-mongers say?

Respect yourself by refusing to stoop to their level. There's no point in reasoning with the unreasonable

That does depend a lot, on just what they do or say. I can't not say anything, often. I was 'dating' a man once, and we were at a little bar/restaurant a lot of us locals liked. I saw a male friend I hadn't seen in a while, and excused myself to go greet and talk with him. Saying why and everything..."there's my old friend'_____', I'm going to go see how he's doing".

When I got back to the table, that man very loudly berated me for going over and talking to that "fag". That was the end of my interest in a relationship with that man. I was glad to find out early on, that he was bigoted in a way I can't abide.

Depends on what you mean by "homophobic". Do they hate/dislike homosexual persons, discriminate against them unfairly, or... do they simply have a different opinion than you on what is right and wrong. Those are two dramatically different positions.

The LGBTQ movement has gone a long way from being discriminated against, so actively oppressing anyone else who doesn't share exactly their point of view, meaning they aren't allowed to think differently.

So which is it? Depends on which of the two situations is occurring.

I love who I love. Sorry if this is a problem for some. Don't care.

If anything, I get a little glee knowing I've upset their tiny worlds.

[c=800000]I ask them questions especially if it's guys like the following:

(1) "Does (no homo) actually validate that you're not gay if you play around with your homie dry humping him from behind?"

(2) "When you sag but don't like other men looking at your cakes, why do you sag, to begin with, if you know that's like a magnet for gays?"

(3) Why do you get defensive when you get called out for being gay and then excuse yourself as doing a favor for your homie giving them sloppy tops aka BJs?"

Do your best to ignore them. They are just narrow minded

I pass pretty well as a woman, sweetie, but for those that get that i'm trans and are abusive, well, my fella (built like a bloody brick outhouse!) tends to have a go at them.

It's very rare that it happens, but it does happen and it really shouldn't should it?

I treat them like ignorant people, and find ways to make them feel stupid for being cruel to others. Or I just ignore them, it depends on if I鈥檓 feeling sensitive that day.
LostpoetM
The best way it's to just ignore them they don't matter and they probably don't have as strong connection with anyone like you both do for each other.
uncalled456-60, M
Ignore. You won't be changing their small minds.
Strictmichael7561-69, M
So sad that people can鈥檛 accept difference, as if it will effect them
Stupid people
Graylight51-55, F
@Strictmichael75 Not stupid, ignorant, and ignorance can be dispelled. Willful ignorance = stupid.
DeWayfarer61-69, M
I avoid them. Not likely to find any at a pagan pride day in fact.
[c=800055]Ignore and move on .

Ignore them.

I don't associate with them. If they're of the violent gay bashing variety, I have a trusty steel baseball bat.
