Do You Double-Check To Make Sure Your Doors & Windows Are Locked Before You Go To Sleep?

I read this today, it happened on my side of the city this week. It’s only a matter of time before something worse happens with this guy.

This sort of thing happens a lot. Sadly the elderly are the biggest victims of it here.. A cop actually suggested a person leave their car keys and purse in easy view in the living room, in the hopes the intruder would find them and not go in your bedroom... Scary stuff.

There is a strange fetish for going into people's homes and watching them. My colleague. An attractive woman woke up in the middle of the night as she was being stroked. She thought it was her boyfriend beside her in bed and let it happen. When she fully awoke and saw a strange man sitting on the bed. She screamed, and he clambered out the window. This intruder wasn't bothered a man was there at all.

@NativePortlander1970 My son has a rooster.
Best guard dog he has ever had.
The problem is, he attacks him too.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Adrift does he like any human? What breed is this rooster?
Adrift · 61-69, F
@cherokeepatti I'm not sure I think he might be a Brahma. He has the white and brown feathers with black tail feathers. He likes my sons girlfriend and that about it.

I always forget to lock the doors and, when the weather is nice, my windows stay open when I’m home. My saving grace is having two big dogs.
I'm usually good about making sure everything is locked up, but occasionally, I forget.

I keep them locked at all times. Its wild to me that people can just leave it unlocked 💀 my OCD and paranoia won’t allow it
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@666Maggotz I keep mine locked when I am at home. Too many people reporting that they’ve seen others on video cams trying to get into their homes
All the time .

I keep doors and windows locked for their safety.
Some things here go bang🙂
We sometimes sleep with unlocked doors here 😧
@cherokeepatti I'm glad your sister was fine. ❤
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@greensnacks Didn’t take long for her to go into labor after that, she was really upset.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@greensnacks This city has become a haven for transients, some are sent here from California so they don’t have to deal with them. They’ll tell them that Oklahoma offers better medical benefits than California. When they can’t get into a shelter and want to get away from sleeping outdoors they’ll go to the ER complaining of this or that and get admitted. A nurse told me when I was there in October that was the reason why the beds are so uncomfortable, she said they’d never leave if they made it comfortable for them. They got a nice tv in each room and they can call in off the menu and order room service from it…and they offer a lot of desserts & other things. Even have lounges on each floor if they want to walk over there and get coffee or other drinks and wrapped snacks. So everyone else who needs to be in the hospital has to suffer from those beds because of what they are doing.

We never unlock the windows, but I do check the doors nightly as we do open them daily.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Musicman yeah I lock all the windows too. Sad when people can’t keep their windows open in pleasant weather to air out the house or pull a cool breeze through it.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@cherokeepatti We open the doors for that. The whole back of our house is sliding glass doors. Now those we open regularly in the winter. Summer is just too hot for that.
4meAndyou · F
He is obviously just ONE confrontation away from really dangerous!
@4meAndyou the old saying...better to be judged by 12, than carried by 6.
Thrust · 56-60, M
@4meAndyou you always need to have a throw down. That's why ankle holsters are made
4meAndyou · F
@Thrust I won't have a gun in my house. I had a REALLY bad experience with a shotgun and the ex. Now I am scared of guns.
Azlotto · M
I do...And I sleep with a pistol under my pillow.
I'm surprised he didn't get a 12ga peppering yet.
@cherokeepatti I thought Oklahoman women packed as much as men there, unless they're recent cali or east coast invaders.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 They generally don’t brag about it if they do. Which is a good thing in my opinion. I knew an older student in the mid 80’s who was going to a gym. One of the other women she knew at the gym, also a student, told her she had woke up one night with a man on top of her trying to pull her jeans down. She had no roommate and had laid down to rest on her bed and fell asleep. She had a little surprise for him, reached under her pillow and grabbed her pistol and shot him in the side (not lethal). He grabbed the spot and whined “You shot me.” He left and I believe the police found him, can’t let a wound like that go without getting treatment.
@cherokeepatti Too bad it wasn't fatal
