New gun laws

I spend everyday working with felons and addiction issues. I have been doing this for 20 years and no matter what you think, new laws regarding the purchase of any type of guns are totally useless.
Here is why and it’s not based on emotion just in fact. There are literally tens of thousands of illegal guns in our country that are readily available for snd in the hands of criminals. These weapons never can be controlled as they are stolen, brought into our country through the ridiculous open border. Gang and traded in the streets. The problem is a people problem. Laws that continue to release known criminals with existing laws being ignored and mental health issues also being ignored and not treated.
Criminals, gangs, and radical groups of every type do and will continue to have open access to weapons no matter what the laws allow.
This is based on talking to felons and seeing the availability for 20 years.

So, releasing criminals from jail, and not prosecuting criminals might actually tend to encourage crime?

Hmm - who would have guessed?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
The name for disarmed citizens is targets
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@sunsporter1649 peace is the other name. You would have to settle disputes. We get that Americans don't believe in peace!

Fascinating fact that most of the illegal firearms recovered by Police in Mexico are American made, there is only 1 firearms manufacturer in Mexico and dozens in the good ole USA so who's really encouraging the illegal weapons?
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@sunsporter1649 The only people concerned with the problems a wall will impose on the border trade are those trading in humans and illegal drugs.

Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@sunsporter1649 It would be funnier if it weren't so true.

I heard that the cartels are openly driving around Texas now. If this is true, we can thank Biden for allowing our country to become an extension of Mexico.

@Carissimi I haven’t been insulting you and I don’t intend to (also we have European elections here in the EU). But the fact remains that Trump has destroyed everything the Republican Party used to stand for. Party that ended slavery doesn’t even believe in Democracy anymore. Why do you think your “hated” globalists like Liz Cheney were forced out for daring to push back. You think things are bad now…just pray the Republicans never return to power.
Roadsterrider · 56-60, M
@Carissimi Thugs from the cartels are openly driving around St Louis, Chicago, Las Vegas and NY. Coast to coast and top to bottom delivering their Chinese fentanyl to users here in the US.
Carissimi · F
I suspected as much. It’s scary “out there.” @Roadsterrider

@ mktonight; I'd like to say, the fact that you've been working with felons and addiction issues everyday for 20 years does NOT make my thoughts about gun control - or anyone else's - less worthy of consideration than yours. The ingenuity & intractability of felons is a separate subject from the possibility of controlling firearm availability. In the USA that will certainly be a difficult problem but if the political will existed for legislation and enforcement, progress could be made.

i'm sure we could all learn much from your work experience, which may often be far from pleasant but that doesn't invalidate other other peoples' thoughts - as you attempt to do with 'no matter what you think'.
Carazaa · F
Criminals aren't the ones who do most of the random school shootings and mass shootings. Too many legal guns to people who do not need a gun. The assault weapons have to go!!

Nice anecdote, meanwhile, gun laws work:

sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@OggggO LOL, I actually lived about 10 miles away from there. Kennesaw is about half way between Atlanta and Chattanooga, a coinvent place for the gang bangers from both cities to exchange narcotics and gunfire. Funny thing, the gang bangers moved elsewhere after the law took effect. Wonder why....
OggggO · 36-40, M
@sunsporter1649 Because when you make shit up, you can pretend anything you want, that's why.

Your comments will be reviewed by the committee and promptly swept under the rug!
Seriously, a very good post. Thanks

We can't STOP the gun violence completely, and you have mentioned some of the reasons.

But we can impact the lives of school children by making it harder for the young to acquire a gun.

Most school shooters are under 21 (average age 17). Most of them are NOT hardened criminals or gang members. They are unhappy children having a tantrum.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Sounds more like both problems need to be treated at the same time instead of trying to fix either one or the other.
Really · 80-89, M
@Thevy29 Agreed; both problems need a solution. I was going to ask which would be simpler or is more urgent; but i decided against it 🙂.
Can't we 'quietly' bomb Mexico, nobody will know it's us? That way we could make Mexico pay for a New wall or we will 'quietly' bomb them again. 😳

The device is feelin' hot, hot hot!
The delay is after ever click-. I must have said something anti war! Gotta go and remove the malware. Thanks, folks.
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
That is a lie. You can stop gun and ammo production and sales.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@Changeisgonnacome show me where this has ever worked. I'll wait
Carissimi · F
How so? You have statistics? @Changeisgonnacome
Changeisgonnacome · 61-69, F
@MasterLee Australia, New Zealand, UK. Nobody expected Americans to stop killing. Nobody expected you to try.

Far more than tens of thousands of illegal guns. I’d venture in the millions
What do you do?
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
I think criminals in every country have weapons that will probably never change, just leting anyone just go out and buy a gun and hope for the best he or she does not want to fire it in anger is the big problem, untill a gun ban in the US is not introduced people are going to die needlessly.

Yes, but where did they come from? You can't tell me the criminals just conjured them out of thin air.
Laws that continue to release known criminals with existing laws being ignored and mental health issues also being ignored and not treated.
Okay, you've got my attention. What do you intend to do about it?
Criminals, gangs, and radical groups of every type do and will continue to have open access to weapons no matter what the laws allow.
See, again, you're assuming these illegal weapons just materialize out of nowhere in a vacuum.
