After the Columbie massacre, a new policy for all law enforcement agencies was instituted.

Instead of waiting for the SWAT team to arrive, the LE people we supposed to go to the scene of the shooting and engage the shooter and thereby minimize the loss of life.
The horrific situation in Uvalde opens the door to MANY questions.

Also instituted was lock the door. Teacher propped the door open the shooter entered through one minute before he arrived to go get a cell phone. But everyone is mad at the cops.

@Johnson212 Some of this I have not heard. It begs the question how can a shooter be near a school and shooting a weapon for twelve minutes and law enforcement not respond?
😳

@ProfessorPlum77 I think they did, I have seen multiple timelines and they don't all agree, they got calls from the funeral home and the school I read 12 minutes but I am not sure that is right. They also did not just hang out for an hour, they did enter the school through the same door that was left propped open but were stopped at the locked classroom door, the suspect was shooting through the door from the inside blindly and hit one or two of the officers. The officers could not blindly shoot back though the door. It is not easy to enter through a locked classroom door while being shot at, I doubt the first officers had the equipment to breech that door, that is stuff swat teams carry. No doubt they will get the details right in the investigation but it will not be done over night and people should wait till then.

@Johnson212 The International Building Code states school doors (and most public doors) should open out. Anyone can quickly exit a room by pushing through the doors. Outward-opening doors provide easy exit access without the trouble of knobs or locks. Every try to kick in a door that opens out which someone is shooting at you through it ?
I don't believe a police force in a town of 15,000 likely had the right training and equipment to follow such a protocol.

It's heartrendingly dreadful, but if the shooter hadn't had the arsenal and the madness, the children would be alive.

We do NOT want to pay for the police, or the mental health care and supervision and we do not want to agree to sensible gun laws.
I just looked it up and Uvalde TX reportedly had ZERO homicides last year.

These cops weren't prepared for this.

what is a bit disconcerting about the implementing of this policy is this not the first time there has been such a tragic shooting at a schools in the united states . so why has it took the united states successive government and the police authority to do anything about it . it appears that that is a case of shutting the gate after the horse has bolted yet again[professorplum77]

@smiler2012 A similar event happened in FL a few years ago. There was at least one armed guard at the school, but he did not engage the killer.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout liberals wanted a high body count for the media. I don't trust the government or the media on virtually any topic.
People will start defending themselves.
If the police won't risk themselves for a child, fuck em..

Perhaps the Keystone Cops need a procedure to follow the procedure.
