Do you ever accidentally mimic an accent you hear? Goerdie is a northern English accent. And whenever I hear it I unintentionally start speaking it

It’s probably because my Dads side of the family where Geordies before the military relocated him south where he met mum. But some people pick up accents that they have never encountered but it seems to sit well in their mind. How about you?
accents i find myself imitating........... Boston, Scots, Indian, Outer Banks (High Tiders), Appalachian (Western North Carolina/East Tennessee), Wisconsin, Russian, etc

Yes actually, it was weird

I lived in the south of the US almost my whole life and never picked it up, but when I was playing xbox live with British people and there were no Americans, I started to sound legitimately British even though at the time I couldn't fake the accent half that well if I tried

Probably because I liked the sound better it was something I absorbed more

@th3r0n It’s strange isn’t it that an accent that isn’t your own feels so natural

@WintaTheAngle I agree, it's strange how the human mind works, but deeply intricate

The Geordie accent is brilliant. My husband's friend is from down there and I could listen to him for hours. I can pick up a Scottish west coast accent nae problem, or English from Herefordshire - can't do any East Coast though.

@helensusanswift It’s a very warm friendly accent

@WintaTheAngle I always think so. Much prefer the Newcastle folk - and Northumbians in general - to most others.

@helensusanswift Same here

I wouldn’t say mimic but I joke with my southern accent friend(girl) she has the strongest accent than anyone in her family

I have a friend from Newcastle upon Tyne. Whenever he visits there his accent returns.

Exaggerated southern accents maybe. But I don’t pick them up and use them.
I don't know about accidentally. Subconsciously, maybe.
