Getting your body to move around increases your heart rate spreading oxygenated blood all over your body and causing you to breathe more to aborb more oxygen. Also with your environment moving because your walking it adds to the stimulus triggers your brain has to comprehend. Like distance to objects around you so you need to be mentally awake to maneuver around on 2 feet. Also as your laying there your body preps for sleep paralysis releasing hormones into your blody slowing down your processes. When you stand up you rest all that.
When you got up and walked 30 feet to bed, your body engaged in physical movement, and the change in surroundings provided a stimulus that alerted your senses and made you feel more awake.

This was a time that needed not a rhyme.

That would happen to me as well. Though I would be watching TV and feel very tired. By the time I got to my bed I was wide awake.
So to alleviate this issue, I put a TV in my bedroom.
Now when I am too tired to watch TV, a simple push button on the remote has me off throwing zzzzs.

Here's a thought. Could you still be on the level if you spelled it backwards. I know, I know. 😜
For real, like I tell my wife don't wake me up from the couch to go to bed. 🙂

Hind brain making sure you don’t become a meal for something else on the way.
Good question. My wife is like that also. Me? I could sleep standing up.
