Do you remember when every day used to have its own identity?

I remember when Fridays used to feel like Fridays. It had an identity to it. You could feel it. Sundays especially used to feel unique. Everything slowed down, you woke up to the smell of bacon and eggs in the morning, and traffic was at a crawl. It felt like the world just...stopped even if just for a day. Sundays used to be my favorite day of the week. Now it feels like any other day.

Every day feels the same.

Anyway, thanks for reading and responding if you choose to.

Yes! I'm long retired but I still think of the days of the week as I did in grade school with being "released" from school in late afternoon Friday being the most joyous time.

@rinkydinkydoink Maybe for me it was just nostalgia.

In my ancestral county they have a Saint for each day of each four year cycle, and a unique new astrological reading for that day, and you hear it on the radio along with the weather report.
In the USA everyone has a different work schedule and his own Friday. That's on purpose. No society. And my class works all of your holidays without holiday pay - you can't afford to pay us more and you have control! We look at the middle class and don't wonder why! You Wear the brutality on the surface.

Part is because nowadays everything is open on Sundays. Restaurants, cafés, marketplaces...
I remember a decade or two ago, it wasn't like that. We had to get all that we needed because "everything is going to be closed on Sunday"

@being Not here. Most things are closed on Sundays here. If a shop wants to open on Sundays it has to either sell only perishable goods (fresh bread, fresh vegetables, etc.= or have a sales floor area under 50 m2. So garden centres are open (plants count as perishable) but supermarkets are closed. Most cafes are also closed. Some restaurants will open in the evening and bars will be open in the evening.

If you desperately need to buy food on a Sunday in the village where I live the only place open is the local petrol station. But you have to be a bit desperate because the choice is very limited and the prices high.

In addition it is illegal to make a lot of noise on a Sunday, no noisy outdoor DIY for instance and certainly no building or excavation work. All this means that it's pleasantly quiet with hardly any traffic..

Awesome post. Yes, I can definitely remember those days, especially in the 70's.

In my school years Sundays were usually the lowest point of the week, with Friday nights to Saturday mornings usually being the highest point, then gradually tapering to a slightly low point by the afternoon, before rising to a high point by the evening.
Great observation. Plus I was wearing my days of the week underpants. 👍

Indeed: Even if you ignored the relkigioius "day of rest" concept, Sundays were always restful, or a chance to go out for the day somewhere.

The rot set in when the shops, especially supermarkets, started opening all day every day.

Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays still have a feel for me.
No bu I remember life before the construct of time was created as a form of control

Sunday was for NFL football. Saturday afternoons were for high school football.
powernap · 56-60, M
@ChipmunkErnie I thought Friday nights were High school football, Saturdays were college football, and Sundays were professional football. Am I wrong?
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@powernap These days, yes -- but when I was growing up high school football was played on Saturday afternoons and no one would have thought of spending all the money for lighting night games for high school sports.
