Can you give me 1 piece of evidence for or against the world being a simulation?

Piper2023 · 26-30, F
well in the Matrix there were occasional glitches.. I haven't noticed any :)
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@Piper2023 what until you start to forget things after 50! 😆
Clarabee · 22-25, F
@Piper2023 what about miracles?
Piper2023 · 26-30, F
@Clarabee You mean miracles are proof that the world is a simulation?
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
The simplest evidence is that to create the simulation there must be other advanced life forms that have done that.

To this point, no such life forms have been found.

Now, if you argue that this is because we are in a simulation and they would not want them discovered, you are not really asking whether we are in a simulation, you are wanting it disproved, to which I refer you to helenS's answer.

@Zeusdelight
To this point, no such life forms have been found.
Of course, that's part of the simulation 😏
helenS · 36-40, F
Any evidence will, of course, be a part of the simulation.
It is therefore impossible to verify or falsify that "simulation" claim.
Statements which cannot possibly be verified or falsified are meaningless and not worth a discussion. The whole thing is logically flawed.
Period 😑
ButterRobot · 51-55, M
there really isn't any evidence for (or against) it. Its just like religion really, there is an element of faith about it. You choose to believe it or you don't. Its a bit like multiverse theory - just because it sounds scientific doesn't actually rate it above a belief in God.
reflectingmonkey · 51-55, M
i can share ideas about why we might be in a simulation but the whole idea of a simulation in a sense throws off any traqditional idea of evidence-based science. you are a brain inside of a skull, you have nerves that relay electrical signals from your senses and with these various signal you try to recreate the world around you. if you were a brain sitting in a jar, connected to wires that feed you with signals everything would be exactly the same as they are now. so because of this it is possible that we live in a simulation since it would appear exactly the same to us but if everything you perceive is a simulation then "evidence" doesn't mean anything at all.
Clarabee · 22-25, F
@reflectingmonkey yes it undermines all knowledge but it doesnt make it false…
Convivial · 26-30, F
There is none either way... But there are a load of strange coincidence that makes it a possibility..
Clarabee · 22-25, F
what’s the coincidence you find most convincing @Convivial
Convivial · 26-30, F
@Clarabee i don't know the exact details off hand, but there are a bunch of constants in the physics world that make life possible... Mind you. Having said that, if those constants were of different values maybe we would still have life, just of a different nature...
Well there isn’t a solid evidence of any actual reality. That’s why there are many different philosophies and religions.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
You can't format, optimise, file clean up, or upgrade your brain... On the other hand I could have sworn I saw Agent Smith the other day.
helenS · 36-40, F
@Thevy29 No it was me! 🤭
Neoerectus · M
It would explain why the world reflects a 12 year
old boy's idea of reality... just sayin'
snofan · M
I hope the experiment ends soon because everything is going to shite.
I have thoughts and opinions but arent facts......yet
Rambler · M
if I kick a rock the pain seems solid evidence of its and my reality, which is enough for me. but i'm simple that way
Clarabee · 22-25, F
@Rambler but why couldn’t you be hooked up to machine that gives pain when you imagine it
Rambler · M
@Clarabee i'm an older model and not compatible with such systems
SW-User
@Rambler Often best to keep it simple.
Penny · 46-50, F
try giving birth lol. thatll make you feel like the world is real. maybe not factual evidence tho. need more info on what you mean by simulation. (not that i really want to think about it lol)

MrEagle · 41-45, M
Pinch your nipple. I do that every time I think I’m in a dream.
Clarabee · 22-25, F
@MrEagle but a simulation if real must include pain. So maybe they programmed this test to fail
MrEagle · 41-45, M
@Clarabee way to smart for me then.
Clarabee · 22-25, F
mostly i just dony like pinched nipples @MrEagle
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Yes. I just pinched myself and it hurt. Thus this is is real.
Clarabee · 22-25, F
@Nitedoc why not being in a machine that guves pain when you believe it
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Clarabee Ah, you would have to believe it! Like Voodoo.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
because life often imitates fiction...

the notion was only proposed after the matrix movies came out...
SW-User
What would change if you found out that it WAS a simulation?

Anyone? Just interested. Not a trick question.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
It hasn't hung up and offered to send a "Fatal Error Message".
acpguy · C
No evidence however I think it may very well be a simulation
therighttothink50 · 56-60, M
