What's your Spring cleaning project?

I'm tearing out the rec room the previous owners built in the basement. I'm sure it was really cool back in the 60's.

It pretty much divided up half the basement and just made things seem smaller, dingy, and musty IMO. I took the disgusting drop ceiling out about a year ago, and now almost done ripping out the paneling. I tear down just enough to make a trip to the dump in the mini van. This is a load about a month ago.

No cleaning, just field prep on my farm and planting oats, mowing, Cutting and debarking poplar trees for railings in my new home,or working on the home build for my dream home here.
@WillaKissing Since I moved don't get to see or, in some instances smell, the farmers prepping. Hope the spring is a good one for you.
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@BrewCityBarfly It has been, I have such steep land I can only use hill/ridge tops for planting.
@WillaKissing Awesome, and very picturesque. Reminds me of the driftless area here. Now I recall, you're building your own house.

Dusting the trophy cabinet for new silverware.
@Nimbus Gotta keep everything spiffy to display the accomplishments.

@Nimbus Not with that current team and manager

That’s a big project!! I have tons of stuff I need to do, mostly on the yard. I’m filling up a ruined fish pond in my backyard with dirt, and planting flowers there. I’m filling my flower bed in front yard with decorative rocks, and planting more plants. Painting the walls over in my bathroom. Lots of projects, those are just a few
@Mardrae I'm not starting outdoor stuff until it warms up. The big thing is landscaping around the new garage and patio. I wish the builder would have left me some dirt they dug out for it.

The week of 70's and 80's was just a teaser to get the grass to grow, and now it needs cutting. It's rainy and about 40F right now. It was sleeting when I went to the dump.

@BrewCityBarfly wow! It’s unseasonably cool here, but can still wear shorts and do yard work
smiler2012 · 61-69
{@brewcityartist] 🤔 fair enough it is your property now you have your own adeas and want to stamp your own mark on it
@smiler2012 I'm always considering resale value too.

Pretty much everything, but mainly the yard. Had to finally break down and hire a lawn-mowing service this year as my wife and I realized neither of us is well/strong enough to so the mowing ourselves any more.
@ChipmunkErnie Honestly, if I could afford it, I'd never cut the grass again. A service here wants $45 a cut. I have things planned for the yard, but I'm not putting that into a spring cleaning category. I guess the only thing was putting the snow thrower in the shed, and pulling out the rider.
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
@BrewCityBarfly We don't have a choice any more. It's that or wait for the local town to fine us for not mowing. :(
@ChipmunkErnie Sorry about that. I'm curious to see if my neighbor across the street will still cut his own this year. He's not moving so well, and I had to help push his mower out of the culvert when it got stuck.

Going to do a few plantings in the front of the house, put another coat of stain on the deck and paint the foundation of the house
I finished restaining the deck 2 weekends ago. Now I’m in the middle of planning the retaining wall project for a little flower bed.
@MrEagle
Those are easy to clean and maintain.

I have pressure treated wood.
@CookieCrumbs I like decks, I've never had a deck, and invariably opt for alternatives just because of the maintenance.
@BrewCityBarfly
The wooden deck came with the house we bought. All it needs was re staining.

But if I were to get it built from scratch, I’d go for the composite kind. Easier to maintain and good for all kinds of weather.

The tack room in our converted barn. Finally need to get it into a useable workshop. That and refurbishing the table saw.
@MrEagle Good to have a decent workshop. Once I get the basement rec room demo done, the workshop is going to move into my garage and open up more space in the basement.
MrEagle · 41-45, M
@BrewCityBarfly definitely. All my stuff now is so cluttered I have to bring things under the carport to do any work. I’ve seen some cool setups with other people’s shops. I just need to get to it.
@MrEagle I hear you. I packed a lot of stuff into a small workshop, and the workbench they left behind is old school massive. I kind of think it's funny considering how unhandy the previous owner was. My main stuff like the table saw, miter saw, and a new workbench will all be on mobile stands in the garage.

Get rid of some of the books in my office. I took three boxes of good books to the local library. Now I Have room for more!
@exexec I'm not sure our local library takes used books, will need to check. I know there are storage bins from my last move with books in them. They were hastily packed just to get them out of the old place.
exexec · 70-79, C
@BrewCityBarfly Our library keeps the ones that fit their needs. They use the others for used book sales to buy new books.

I painted part of the kitchen todayand declttered and reorganized 🙂 it looks great and is much more open and inviting now. Ill finish painting another day soon
@Penny De-cluttering and organizing is something I really need to do too. First things first.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
It's not springy enough her yet! But once it is. We have some DIY projects. I wanna fix my drawers and we are fixing up our kitchen table.
@Queendragonfly DIY is a great way to save $$, while also giving things a needed upgrade. Are you refinishing the table?
Punches · 46-50, F
Normlly I would have projects but this year I do not think I can be bothered.
YoMomma ·
I would have saved all those boards
@YoMomma I don't have the room to store, and some of them have moisture damage. I like to repurpose things whenever it's possible. I have a friend who is going to be taking the remaining 4x4's they used for framing.
YoMomma ·
@BrewCityBarfly ok ☺️👍🏼

Putting clothes on poshmark
akindheart · 61-69, F
@BrewCityBarfly i hooe to retire by year end and get rid of more. I have worked on this for years now
@akindheart
I opened a Poshmark account and sold some purses and clothes when we decided to pack our stuff , get the place ready for renovation before selling. I enjoyed the selling experience. Hehe
akindheart · 61-69, F
@CookieCrumbs i have a pile ready to list
Bri89 · 31-35, M
Every day is Spring cleaning for me.
@Bri89 Sure seems that way sometimes.

Since everyone knows Biden was not fairly elected. My target is A.I., and that is proving to be more of a militant than patriots like me. The world is screwd until the interwebs are free from gaagles monopoly.
checkoutanytime · 41-45, M
@BrewCityBarfly have you met a Biden supporter that lives in the USA? Trick question, bc that is impossible.
@checkoutanytime Any current or former POTUS is welcome to come over if they want to help. Heck, it might be good for all of them to come down from their ivory tower and see what life is really like here in the trenches. I don't begrudge anyone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and pick up a claw bar.
checkoutanytime · 41-45, M
@BrewCityBarfly Biden aint that guy. He will make up a ridiculous story about his childhood that relates in no way to being an ordinary commoner.

I'll be on my knees, scrubbing the floors...
@helenS I love wood floors. I scrubbed mine before moving in. I pretty much consider them "rustic" at this point, and the next scrubbing will be with a floor sander. 🙂
helenS · 36-40, F
@BrewCityBarfly The whole house is very old. In fact nobody knows how old it really is. It's older than anyone living.
@helenS Old houses are great, and some have wonderful old woodwork. They just need a lot of TLC and elbow grease. Mine was built in '56.
