I don't see why we can't normalise paying someone's bills for Christmas. Much more useful than shit you don't need.

I think we should just give up on gifts altogether except for kids and people who really need it. Most of us waste our money on things we didn't ask for or need. I think we should get back to basics.
@JimboSaturn This. I was just thinking of this the other day. When we gift one another in my family, it’s just money now which goes straight into paying bills. That’s fine, but there’s no joy to the giving. We all feel some relief for the extra that helps, but the kids are the only ones excited about it anymore. It’s nice to give to them to share in their excitement over the holidays.

@Colonelmustardseed I agree, I would rather focus on the Christmas vibe, eating, drinking, and just enjoying the season without all the hustle and stress.

I give gift certificates mostly . Places they’d like to eat or places they’d like to buy or do things.

That's too easy. We have to make it difficult

I used to help handpick the Christmas packages for the employees of my parents' company. We always made sure everything in there was functional and got consumed. There's nothing worse than gifting someone stuff they won't make use of.

@TheGreatLeveler Hence why toys are the worst thing ever for Christmas gifts. I stopped doing christmas cards altogether about 5 yrs ago, and my adult kids just get a little 'cash injection' as their christmas gift. My 6 y/o is heavily Santa-ised and very influenced by youtube mormon influencer family videos but I haven't had a christmas tree for over 10 yrs and instead I have a bit of galvanised pipe as a 'festivus pole'. Christmas should be about family and good food. This year I don't have my daughter for Christmas day so I'll probably just opt to work and let someone else who does have their kids on that day have it off otherwise I'll be at home by myself.
