@originnone Mainly from my mother and a bit at school. You can learn basic techniques from the internet, but the only way to develop is through lots of practice.
@SunshineGirl That's really cool! I can do a little sewing to fix things or change little things on clothing, but creating entire pieces is a lot of work and planning! That's really admirable.
Sure, I mend little holes at times if the rest of the clothing is in good repair. I can hem things and take seams apart and redo things. If it's not in good repair it goes in the rag bin for changing or checking the oil on the car, and dirty jobs like that.
When I was a teenager, a favorite hobby of my best friend and I was to go to the thrift store and buy a boring dress or shirt or pants with a cute pattern, draw out how we wanted it to look and then try to resew things. It was pretty fun. And not a very expensive hubby considering the clothes and thread would be like a couple dollars. Some didn't quite turn out right. But it was fun. but some were pretty cool. We should have taken photos back then. Lol
I still use such skills, on rare occasions. I recently bought a new dress on clearance that was beautiful. One problem was the line under the bust and shoulder needed to be raised like an inch to fit right and look right because it didn't sit right. and the silhouette wasn't right without raising it. So I was able to do that for myself and it looks gorgeous. Same with a crop top I made around that time too. I should send a photo to my childhood best friend and show her 😂 she'll get a kick out of it that. #throwback
@calicuz I did too and usually ended up with a little lump that rubbed a blister on my feet. I think that’s why I stock up on socks when I find some good ones on clearance. Probably have a lifetime supply now.
Yes I hate throwing anything away if it still has plenty of wear in it . I hate when you buy trackies or shorts and its not long before the elastic waist wears out . I buy new elastic and rethread . Jeans look great with patches as do overalls no need to throw away or if their really badly damaged in the leg turn them into shorts . Ladies turn them into a pair of shorts or short skirt . There are all sorts of ways to reuse old clothes just takes some imagination .
@Scribbles Me too . Some into very short shorts that leave nothing to the imagination when you sit down it all hangs out as I am always commando , I dont own underwear .
