@SW-User not sure I can take waking in the night with cramp in my calves
RickR · 46-50, M
@SW-User be sure to balance your electrolytes to manage the cramps. If the pain is bad don't workout for now. A little pain is ok, too much is a sign to pause.
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
I would take an "active recovery" day...such as light stretches or floor exercises to give your muscles some recovery.
Carla1951 · 70-79, F
If this occurs again, take a hot bath. The heat will calm your muscles. They're sore because they are over worked. The heat from a bath... simply to soak, will calm your muscles. In the future ask a trainer about your pain and the discomfort. THAT is what they are there for.
I was tall for my age growing up. And I was plagued with brutal leg cramps. I remember waking up crying. Growing Pains my mother called them. Even today I sometimes feel the leg muscles cramp up. But I do not attend a GYM I walk. Live in a very pleasant community.
I eat more or less what I want, then walk off the calories.
I could consider to jog off the calories, Was fat once. Nearing obesity. When I tried on a pair of Jeans that read size 22 I began to treat my body a lot better. Fluids. Drink as much water as you think you can hold. TRY to make sure you drink a lot of water. This will replenish what you lost AND restore what your body needs.
However, to truly answer your question...you are not giving your body the time to adjust.

@Carla1951 my workouts are very short bc I've had such a gap between having an exercise routine, I'm lucky not to have extra weight to shed but illness has made me pretty weak. It's just a case of knowing what's normal pain and what is actual damage.
VioletRayne · 36-40, F
workout, rest, workout. Is the best schedule. If you want to workout consistently, I'd do cardio strength training Cardio.

SW-User
@VioletRayne been doing kettlebell stuff, not too hard while doing it but kinda rough after
VioletRayne · 36-40, F
@SW-User If you're getting sore break up the days with running or yoga. Something less intense
Jonjdw · 51-55, M
Give it some time to heal. Then you will be able to do more next time. You will get stronger
sassycookie · 26-30, F
I wouldn't.

I have been trying to because I tend to give up if I let the aches really set in. Much easier to sit watching The Crystal Maze and eating cookies because I'm a little bit sore.

SW-User
@CheshireCatalyst is that still on lol?
CheshireCatalyst · 41-45, M
They just rebooted it with Richard Ayoade hosting

LadyWioness · 56-60, F
Bananas if you can. Soreness happens due to lactic acid buildup in the muscles; potassium, and stretching, along with adjustment to the workout will help.

SW-User
@LadyWioness thank you
LadyWioness · 56-60, F
@SW-User you're welcome. If you're in too much pain, it's okay to rest for a day; perhaps working on another muscle group.
shakenama · M
To lessen the chances of leg cramps try stretching before and after a workout. And drink plenty of water or Gatorade. Your muscles lose water and electrolytes during a workout.

SW-User
@shakenama I was careful to warm up and do stretches, I read that getting protein after is good for repair.

SW-User
Have a few beers at the pub. That should relieve some pain.

Take some time off, I have pulled muscles before and the only thing you do is aggravate it if you don't let it rest.
