Last generation…

I was diagnosed with Shingles today. Then a weird thought hit me. I’m probably part of the last generation where many people can even get Shingles because the Chicken Pox vaccine came along not too long after I had the Chicken Pox.

Yeah. Totally random. I know. 😂

Our roof needs repair. Bad joke. Sorry. 🙂

[@1219161,SnowBlack] don’t be sorry. I’ve totally thought about it too. lol
Yes, although just like now, some people refused to be vaccinated back then. Others even had “parties” where they let their kids gather and infect each other. That’s how my cousin was infected, and then I caught it when we were both visiting our grandmother. There’s a shingles vaccine now, too.

[@328496,bijouxbroussard] I didn’t go to a party to get Chicken Pox. We called it school. Lol. Everyone got it … yes. There is a vaccine for shingles, but they usually recommend it at an older age.
[@348497,Dewkissedrose] Yes, I had that vaccine when I turned 59.

There are plenty unvaccinated out there even now. They can look forward to shingles perhaps. Measels has more than doubled since 2016, oh well.
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@854658,Asificair] There was a time when people didn’t question vaccines as much. Yes .. Measels and Whooping Cough are out again. Grrr

[@348497,Dewkissedrose] smart people believe some stupid stuff.

I had shingles on the left side of my face. It went down to my neck and shoulder. It was the most painful thing I have experienced and I was only 15 or 16 at the time.
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@567763,blackcar] ick. I’m sorry. That’s where I have it. Right now it’s in the itching stage.
[@567763,blackcar] this is a vaccine you should definitely talk to your doctor about

Shingles is a pain. Have you received an anti-viral drug?
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
Thankfully yes. [@1226902,Jean48]

I was just thinking the other day my son never got Chicken Pox. Pretty much everyone I grew up with had it, myself included. You are right there's a whole generation now that will never experience it which is good. Mine was awful I was 12 or 13 and it was hell
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@326696,TheFragile] I was in first grade. It was terrible!!! This shingles crap isn’t any better. I feel old. Lol
TheFragile · 41-45, F
[@348497,Dewkissedrose] hope it heals for you pretty fast. Wish they let us take the shingles vaccine sooner. Friend of mine's husband got shingles real bad he got it all over his head it was so bad for him. I don't want that
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@326696,TheFragile] I think I may have caught it pretty early. Not much pain yet. Just itching like crazy.

I had chicken pox but my wife didn't. Whan my kids got them we had to send the kids to stay with a relative for two weeks because she had other health and the doctor said it would be really bad for her.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
Erhhhhh.....I've just read that the CP vaccination reduces to about 85% effective after 4 timespan? It reduces the chances of getting shingles but not entirely....

SJD xx
Can you still get the shingles vaccine eventually?
It's supposed to be really painful 😕
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@868864,HannahSky] Yes. I probably will because I could get Shingles again. They don’t normally recommend it until a bit older. But, I guess I’m old enough…
[@348497,Dewkissedrose] Sorry to hear about it. Probably better now than when you're much older.
I keep reminding my mom her doctor said to get it.
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@868864,HannahSky] I agree. Although, I could still get it again. I’ll be looking at getting the vaccine sooner than later I’m sure.
I got shingles when I was 17... and I'm an age bracket below you.
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@421598,Becksta] no fun.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
There is a shingles vaccine
Dewkissedrose · 41-45, F
[@339269,JimboSaturn] I’m aware. They don’t normally recommend it until an age older than what I am. You also can still get Shingles even with the vaccine.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
[@348497,Dewkissedrose] Yes from what I see on TV is 50+
