Food for thought

Is it just me or is manifestation/law of attraction actually making people crazy?
eMortal · M
It’s called Magical Thinking.
Magical thinking in psychology refers to a type of thinking where an individual believes that their thoughts, actions, or words can influence events in the world in a way that defies the known laws of physics and causality. This kind of thinking is common in children but can also be seen in adults. It is characterized by beliefs such as:

1. **Cause and Effect Misunderstandings**: Believing that one can influence outcomes or events without a causal or logical relationship. For example, thinking that wearing a certain color can change the outcome of a sports game.

2. **Superstitious Beliefs**: Holding irrational beliefs about luck, such as thinking that carrying a lucky charm can influence future events.

3. **Overestimation of Personal Influence**: Believing that one's thoughts or actions can directly influence external events, like thinking that wishing for something can make it happen.

4. **Anthropomorphic Thinking**: Attributing human characteristics to inanimate objects or forces of nature, like believing a car has a personality or that the weather changes in response to one's mood.

Magical thinking is not inherently harmful and can be a normal part of development or a way to cope with uncertainty. However, it can be problematic if it interferes with rational decision-making or reflects a psychological disorder, such as in some cases of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or schizophrenia.

The Laws of Attraction have nothing whatsoever to do with magical thinking. What you're going on about in your post misses the mark completely in what the OP is asking about.

Magical thinking in psychology has no basis in the Art of Manifestation, in fact neither are even remotely related. Obviously you know a bit about psychology, but clearly you know nothing about the Laws of Attraction.

@swirlie haha that not me. That’s ChatGPT ! I kind of agree with ChatGPT though. In manifestation, you still have to believe that adopting a certain mindset automatically turns your wishes into a reality that will then manifest itself in your life.

@eMortal
..and that's exactly how it goes in life whether you've developed a certain mindset or not with regard to manifestation.

I think you already have to have predisposition for magical thinking to even pay attention to it and believe it's real. Unless you understand manifestation as a tool to keep your thoughts organized and stay goal-oriented while you steadily work towards what you want to achieve.

@CrazyMusicLover That makes a lot of sense! I am intrigued..

From my experience it's just another load of crap to believe in when reality sucks.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
It's a flawed law based on the assumption that polarity exists. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Polarity is single dimensional: A line with opposite ends. Reality isn't even two dimensional.
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@DeWayfarer i think reality has 4 dimensions that we use. Space: length, width, depth and time. Thats why when you say you have to be somewhere you give a location and time.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@GuyWithOpinions even with four dimensions it's still not single dimensional! 🤷🏻‍♂️
GuyWithOpinions · 31-35, M
@DeWayfarer thats my point.

A lot of the things that make us crazy or do crazy things are baked into us when I little brains are developing, we don't even realize it and it surfaces later in life seemingly out of nowhere but there was always a start.
I don't think manifestation/law of attraction makes people crazy. I think the distance between what they're manifesting through law of attraction, and their thoughts and behaviors they're relying on to help them maintain their identity, is at the bottom of a lot of discord. That discord is denoted by confusion, negative emotions and feelings of being crazy.

It can be, yes.

Does this have anything to do with people being depressed because they do not have a lover for valentine's day?

It is crazy. Belief in it is magical thinking. Which is to say false and wrong.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
It's crazy to think that would work...
swirlie · 31-35, F
If people are appearing crazy to you, it is actually YOU who is manifesting that perception about them, it is not them manifesting craziness for themselves.

You are making your perception of them appear as 'real' in your own world which of course only exists in your own mind because you put it there.

In other words, it's not just you imagining what you see, it is actually you manifesting what you eventually see and believe is real.
