Substitution. AND a little bit of inner toughness. I quit chain smoking by putting a breath mint in my mouth EVERY time I wanted a cigarette. It worked. Smoking is an oral habit, and giving yourself a breath mint oral habit instead does help.

Fighting an addiction takes a lot of self-discipline and there’s no shame in looking for help in how to do it. I used to be an alcoholic and it took some big stakes to get me to stop drinking. Not that that what it takes to quit an addiction, just saying I understand how hard it is. Hope it can be easier for you. Good luck.

Think about whether or not you enjoy pain.. because that's what you'll have a lot of if you don't quit.

Lung cancer is a dandy cure for ending smoking. Shoot for that. Commons sense don't seem to be working.

I'm afraid it's all a question of willpower - you really have to want to quit to succeed.
