DUST MITES

I am sick of forever having a runny nose, and sneezing and it happens year-round and never goes away. Dr Google tells me I might not actually have a cold, but it's a reaction to dust mites.

Any domestic heroes who can tell me how to get rid of them? Obviously vacuuming and changing sheets regularly would be the main one but if I want to donan utter blitz and reduce/remove any unwanted remnants, is there any method or anything else I should do??

@CestManan Thank you!

@helsbels Dealing with critters in the home is often a pain.

The best we can do is to make our homes VERY uninviting for them.

Ironically though, the less comfortable it is for critters, the MORE comfortable it is for humans.

One thing about air purifiers, I think the quality ones are kind of expensive, but you can research that if you go that route.

@CestManan Will try the smaller/easier steps first to see how things improve 😊

shout at them

no seriously though, apparently you can get a UV vacuum and that kills them.

@Matt85 ooh, I'll look in to it, thanks

@Matt85 Yes now I remember!

Ok... every item of bedding and nightwear I own washed on high temperature.
Extensive dusting, beating and hoovering of surfaces, sofa, mattress, floor.
Put a spider plant in my room.
Ran a dehumidifer for 12 hours.
Your move, dust mites 🤣

Oh, and getting some lavender/clove/eucalyptus oil to spray around like a priest at an exorcism.

@CestManan So far so good!

Before you burn the house down, first do an allergy test and confirm if it really is dust mites that is causing the problem.

Start trying anti histamine tablets for a month. Allegra has become a common drug around the world treating allergies as many suffer from various types of allergies.

Don't turn yourself into a clean freak as it may lead you to OCD condition.

Essential oils contain compounds that repel or kill insects, including dust mites. The best essential oils for getting rid of dust mites are clove, rosemary, and eucalyptus oil. Add 20 drops of oil to four ounces of witch hazel, and spray your mattress, couch, drapes, and other dust mite hangouts.

I think lots of cleaning, intense cleaning is the only answer
Convivial · 26-30, F
@helsbels yup, fraid so lol.... Carpets and bedding are the worst, you may need to think about new pillows and mattress
helsbels · 31-35, F
@Convivial Yes, silk sheets on the list 😍😄
Convivial · 26-30, F
@helsbels one good thing at least ;)

You can try any of the below two simple things..i guess it is happening once in every two hours or so and continues. Whenever you feel like having this type of "allergy" drink something hot like coffee, tea or even hot water. The other method is raising your voice a bit higher..like singing or laughing..this should solve your issue..I'm having this issue for quite a long time and I'm doing this.im an indian and ethnically I prefer home treatments like this..
helsbels · 31-35, F
@RajaCalme hmm, strange, but easy to try and I won't turn anything down 😆
RajaCalme · 31-35, M
@helsbels Believe me..this sure will work..just give it a shot..and you'll thank me later..
Fatalice · 41-45, F
Get rid of carpets and curtains try blinds and hard floorings
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Fatalice That would be impractical because of expense and honestly, kind of a lifestyle change in the home.
Plus the dust mites would still have a place to live on the bed.

Someone mentioned UV, that would likely be a more practical approach.
Ambroseguy80 · 56-60, M
Highly recommend a UV cleaning lamp. I saw someone mentioned a UV vacuum, but they now sell cleansing lamps like the hospitals use to kill dust mites and other critters. I own one that I purchased off of Facebook and it has done wonders!
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I don't know if there is anything you can do; they are ubiquitous. Like Fatalice, have less porous material that may be hard to clean. I've heard of that those steam machines can kill them, I'm not sure though.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Buy a new pillow case for allergens. Down pillows are the worst for it but others can get them too. They are not expensive and washable.
Wish there was an easy way. Sorry you are suffering
helsbels · 31-35, F
@Sojournersoul Thank you
@helsbels you are welcome.
