Two days in hospital and finally home.

Had surgery on Monday evening to remove a mass under my left ear to lower jaw.
Op. delayed by 14 months so it was considerably larger than Surgeon anticipated.

Finally home and exhausted.
And as I type this I can feel the effects of the painkillers wearing off.

Going to be a tough couple of weeks recovery i think.

It looks like it will be a painful couple of weeks. I hope you were prescribed some actual painkilling medication to use when you really need it.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Piper 60mg Dihydracodeine 4x a day
10mg Hydromorphine 2x a day

@Musicman Well for ages they said they thought it was a fluid sac.
Every so often it would get 'infected', swell to the size of a tennis ball before decreasing over the course of a week, eventually returning to normal.

Then it 'evolved' to the point where it would start to affect my breathing and swallowing.
Especially at night when lying flat in bed.
Then it would burst outwardly.
So they've taken it out for analysis; closed the wound and put a drain in.

Drain was taken out Wednesday so that should be the end of it.
Trouble is they had to cut a tendon in my neck to get the thing out so i now have limited movement in my shoulder so physiotherapy should follow shortly @Musicman

Massive hugs & I hope you recover very soon
DrWatson · 70-79, M
Whoa. I'm glad they were able to remove that, but I am sure that the recovery will be rough indeed. I hope it goes well for you, and that this will all be behind you someday relatively soon.

Given the delay I assume it was not cancer?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@deadgerbil Yep. It's a sobering thought realizing you can just shrug something off anymore.
deadgerbil · 26-30
@Picklebobble2 my biggest fear would be having those cells migrate elsewhere esp with that delay
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@deadgerbil Oh I'm not fearful of it.

I read the stuff on these pages and realise I've been pretty lucky in terms of physical ailments I've had to endure during my life.

Never broken an arm or leg.
No injuries to organs via accident or misadventure.
A brain that functions pretty well at an age where my Grandfather and Dad weren't so lucky.

I hope your recovery goes well. That looks like a very sensitive area to have had surgery on
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Jenny1234 My entire head was completely numb yesterday morning.
They had to cut a tendon in the top of my neck to get access to this thing.
Now have limited movement in how high or wide i can raise my left arm
Physio to follow.

Slept ok though

Glad they found the root of your ailment, heres to a speedy recovery🥂

Why was surgery delayed
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@Patriot96 Depends on who you ask.
Government says the last governments failure to agree new terms and conditions with the medical profession meant unnecessary delay in folks getting treatment (a go slow by Doctors; Surgeons etc. resulted) The new (ish) government say the last government didn't want to spend the money because they were planning on giving it away to persuade top earners to vote for them.
