Please help me decide

So I go to a chiropractor to align my misaligned jaw, from night grinding. Ive been going a year and its slowly healing. They also do back and neck adjustments, saying my x ray last year showed I needed it. I just accepted it. Recently somehow the tool they use really hurt my spine for several days. Piercing pain. But, its never done that all year. So I wonder, do I tell them stop back treatment, so it wont happen again, and just focus on jaw.. or just continue back as well, as it only occurred once? Im torn.

Your body is warning you so you better listen. I would definitely tell them to stop that particular treatment. Better safe than sorry. That doesn't sound good, what happened to you. Don't strain it. Give it time to heal. You know those heating pads that have a little sponge in them and you can wet that and have a moist heat treatment? That would be ideal but don't use it without wetting that pad because that would dry your bones out.

And I've heard this advice from far too many doctors to disregard it: Do not visit the chiropractor.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Graylight i went to one years ago(like 1984) for a shoulder problem. He hurt my upper back so badly, i was in bed for days. I knew i should have run when he said chiropractic methods could cure the common cold.
Def tell them it hurt you. Doctors need a patient's feedback to do proper treatment.
@Coralmist Yeah I know it could be pricey but I'd rather pay for a treatment that works than one that isn't helping.

@canusernamebemyusername Well thing is I think they are an hour drive from me and sometimes my symptoms were vertigo so i went with chiropractor is closer. Im talking of a cranio doctor who fixes misalignment, was too far, but I think periodontist was also far. The chiropractor treatment of my jaw is helping actually, just not the back treatment...although it only hurt badly jusr recently, but it was for over a week. I just dont want to continue it, and I need to face my fear that they wont like it at first.
@Coralmist They will like it even worse if they end up hurting you and you sue. So standing up to them helps them too.

I had a chiropractor who said he was licensed in physical therapy he severely hurt my already busted up knee.
I will never go to another one, that is my opinion ,I'm not telling you not to ,but if a treatment is causing you immense pain and they won't listen to you it's time to go to a different doctor, I think.

Hi Lady ,Im a bit of a DR and you need to question so called Doctors what they are doing regarding your spine as it hasnt anything to do with night grinding ,you can get gumshields that will stop that
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Banksy83 Right, they were saying The spine needs to be aligned as its connected to everything, but it really doesn't affect my jaw. I dont kniw why Im so nervous to speak up and just say Stop the back treatment.
Banksy83 · 41-45, M
@Coralmist Always Speak your mind Lady, I checked out some of your questions, you are amazing.

Of course the chiropractor is going to encourage you to continue treatments. $$$$$ I highly recommend seeing an oral surgeon for your jaw....you should be wearing a jaw protector at night. NEVER continue to see a chiropractor if the treatment causes sharp pain. They don't routinely x ray. If they were real professionals they would x-ray every 2-3 months to see if they have changed your alignments. ESPECIALLY don't allow them to hurt your spine.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@4meAndyou Im wondering if I can just have them eliminate any back treatment ( i didnt go there for my back, just jaw alignment..they added back adjustment, saying i needed it) and cut the price in half, if they work solely on why I'm there, jaw. 🤔 My jaw has shown improvement as i have less vertigo. Ive already dished out money for chiro, so to start with a cranio doc now, would be doubling the price overall. But I know a cranio doc specializes in this, but they are a hike from my house. Ughhh
losthorizons · 51-55, M
@4meAndyou Not true. My Chiro saved my life. He was the only one that found the right diagnosis. Been with them ever since. Never felt better. He is truly a life saver. Yes there are weird ones out there, some I’ve seen on you tube. However they say that’s not real chiropractic. There are great ones out fhere
4meAndyou · F
@losthorizons I guess you were lucky.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
I would let them know it hurt after the last adjustment so they can correct it and/or not use that tool again. They might push to keep doing your back too but should be respectful of your wishes.
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@Coralmist since you’re pretty concerned I would ask that they only focus on your jaw.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Jeephikelove Ty friend. I feel like they will disagree, so im pretty nervous to send the email but i need to say how I feel in life too right?? Ty again🌺
Jeephikelove · 51-55, F
@Coralmist yes you do, you have to be your own advocate and remember it’s your body. 🤗🤗
Bang5luts · M
No, write down exactly what happened and tell them and your next visit. If you feel like the dr isn't listening or taking you seriously tell them you don't feel comfortable with continuing the treatment until this issue that caused the pain is resolved or until your feelings are at minimum validated.
Bang5luts · M
@Bang5luts Perfect
Bang5luts · M
Awe thank you @Mamapolo2016. 😊
I had been through it.... They also instructed me some useful exercises to do at home...... it was painful for a good while but later felt worth it... I need to continue to do the exercises tho...

One more advice... see an orthopedist too....
carpediem · 61-69, M
Go to an orthopedist, ask for prescription for physical therapy, get the therapy, then find a good trainer. You'll never see a chiropractor again.
GovanDUNNY · M
You have to tell them, pain tells us something isn't right with our bodies,I hope you have a good Doctor.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@GovanDUNNY They are but last time I said it hurt, they said more treatments there would make it hurt less.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Tell them it hurt. There are other ways they can adjust you without using it
redredred · M
See a real doctor, an MD or an OD.

@geoam1 I have strong feeling they will push to continue back treatments..i brought up pain there only once during my first week and they said, it will help the pain to continue them.. 🤔
