Just my opinion here on some COVID procedures.

I've read on here about some countries going back into lockdown, and I don't feel like that should be necessary at this point. Lockdowns were what we did at the beginning, when we didn't have the tools to fight the virus. Since we have the tools we need to fight the virus, I feel like lockdowns would be a step backwards, not forwards at this point.

I hope this doesn't raise too much controversy 😆.

Lockdowns wouldn't be necessary if people got vaccinated. Like ya say, we have the tools to fight the virus - vaccines. Any lockdowns that happen now, are mostly thanks to the anti vaxers.

@Jenna76 sorry about that. I’m a bit slow this morning

@GJOFJ3 don’t worry, I didn’t get it either 🤷🏼‍♀️

According to the WHO, 7100 people are dying each day. I agree, lockdowns shouldn’t be necessary, but it might help… or maybe 7100 is an acceptable death rate - I don’t know.

@Jill1990 yes i know, was referring to the comment by @ddknaz above

@ddlknaz I’m not sure where you live, but here in the US, hospitals in many cities are well beyond capacity. People are spending days in the emergency room due to lack of beds.

@Jenna76 @Jill1990 I'm in Arizona US. Latest stats for the US are 160K per day are getting the newest Omicron variant. I admit Delta took it's toll and still is. The Omicron is less deadly and less hospitalizations as a result.
Anti-vaxers are not the enemy and I am not an anti-vaxer (for the record)... Instead I am building antibodies using different methods, at the advice of my doctor due to pre-existing conditions.

Couple of thoughts. We never did really commit to widespread lockdowns and they weren't completely effective. However, had lockdowns and quarantines been done effectively and completely this virus, in all likelihood, would be gone.

But I agree that while we have to keep lockdowns as an option in the worst-case scenarios, with vaccines and boosters there ought to be a way to live without such drastic measures. The problem, of course, is those who are unvaccinated who will continue to become sick and make others sick. The loss of those so willing to lay down their lives isn't a big deal, the people they infect are.

@Graylight agreed. Also the space they take up in hospitals which in effect will kill other people who suffer from heart attack, stroke, accidents, etc that won’t be able to get an ICU bed. Also those waiting on surgery, cancer screenings, etc that don’t get them because those staff are deployed to the ICU, ER, testing sites, vaccination sites.

@Graylight Perfectly said. Man if I knew i infected someone I would feel so awful and guilty, they dont seem to care.

Of course it's a step backwards. And there's a reason for it. We've been handed a magic wand in the form of free, effective vaccines. And it's not being taken advantage of or, even worse, they're not getting to where they need to be. We are a weak species. Viruses like this are more powerful than we are. If we don't adapt then people will die unnecessarily. It is what it is. Personally, I've lost all empathy for those who refuse to adapt and do the right thing. Actions have consequences. My thoughts are on healthcare workers and all workers who are forced to be put at risk. If a lockdown helps them then lock it down as far as I'm concerned.

They've brought a few restrictions (not lockdowns) back here, but that's just to protect the hospitals from being overwhelmed. People are on their own with it now.
Starting tomorrow 5pm all restaurants will be closed except ta0ke out and we are going on a curfew aga0in from 10pm till 5am
Jenna76 · 41-45, F
@SimplyMeChantou curfew...where are you at?
@Jenna76 In the province of Quebec in Canada
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@SimplyMeChantou :(

Ontario wont be far behind
Any closures here have been driven by staff getting infected and the business not being able to stay open. I’m in Los Angeles, we never really stopped the mask mandate. We seem to have it better than other big cities. But the positivity rate went from around 1 to over 8% in a week! Hospitalizations and deaths aren’t changing that much yet.
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@JonLosAngeles66 we are at 28% provincially here.
@iamonfire696 wow that’s incredibly high. Anything over 3% is considered bad. Stay safe!
iamonfire696 · 41-45, F
@JonLosAngeles66 it is. I rarely leave my house.
I agree.....but many don’t although there are a lot of like minded people here.
You would think no one had died before Covid......and people in Btitain are dying from things other than Covid because their treatment was delayed because of it,
But that is acceptable apparently.
